Not been on a bike in a couple of months but plan to pop along for a pootle. How cold is it in Scotland this time of year?!

BBC weather for Aviemore is giving nighttime temps of 9C which is a couple of degrees cooler than here. I usually reckon on 2C difference between south and north England and the same between northern England and the Highlands. Might not be accurate all the time but it's a reasonably rule of thumb.

Does anyone know if the whole route fits on the two Landranger OS maps of the Cairngorms?
Landranger 43 - Braemar & Blair Atholl
Landranger 36 - Grantown & Aviemore - Cairngorm Mountains
It looks like it probably does.

I'm not sure I'll actually take them on the ride, but I do like having maps for adventures I've done.

As much as I'd kinda like them I don't really fancy buying the 5+ Explorer maps to cover it, right after all the other bits I've bought recently :/

It should do, not totally sure about the most southwestern section of the route but I think it'll squeeze on there

Haven't a clue unfortunately. I can check tonight. I used to have some PDFs at 1:50k A4 on my Google Drive which if I find again I'll share.

In fact - here it is. I'm on mobile so can't check them fully and the route might need pencilled back in (especially Glen Feshie), but this should be of use.

Ohh, yes, thanks. From the pdfs it looks like the end of CL1, all of CL2 & CL3 and the start of CL4 are on either 42 or 35, rather than 43 & 36.
Ahh well, it did seem a little too convenient when I thought that the route turned north just before the map edge

b) I'm meeting Steve W in the pub at some point after 1930 for a refreshing beverage...or two.

We are heading up on Friday. Not sure what time, it's about a five hour trip. Haven't got anywhere booked for the Friday night so it might be the posh campsite over the road.

Other thought. Does the Harveys map cover the route?

I stayed in Pitlochry the day before the ride in May, and rode across in the morning. More places to eat and drink. If you're in Blair Atholl, the woods by the car park at the start are perfectly good for small tents.

Checked out the Harveys, it does look like a fair bit of the route is on it, certainly more than any other single OS map.
However they don't have maps that cover:
Start -> Feshiebridge
Avimore -> Inchorory
Then somewhere after the Falls of Tarf the trail goes off the map until the end, not really sure when.

That's a shame. I do like the 1:40 coverage on Harveys maps, also that they are centred differently and more useful for a lot of mountain wandering. Also, quite comfortable with the more simple detail they provide, make a lot more sense than a 1:25 a lot of the time.

1:25k is rarely required in Scotland and it requires just too much paper/scrolling to be useful for cycling.

FWIW you can subscribe to the Ordnance Survey online service for £20 per year, access all the 1:50k and 1:25k mapping you need, and print off whatever you require for your route. What's more, it's as up-to-date as the OS ever gets so you're not always referring to old data.
