I got some insurance last year from an on-line sports specific company which wasn't expensive. It didn't cover theft but did mean they'd get me back to the UK dead or alive should something go wrong ... not a pretty thought but a very real practical consideration.

I looked at insurance from other more general companies and while they'd cover me to parachute, bungee jump, white water raft or rock climb, they wouldn't cover me to ride a bicycle

EDIT: just looked back through my emails - it was through these people: https://www.sportscoverdirect.com/

I use Southdowns annual multi trip insurance (I travel a lot). They've got a VERY comprehensive policy which covers pretty much everything you can think of.

However, they wont cover cycling races, so keep that in mind if you're doing anything that would count as a race.

I've been using BMC for European jaunts. They'll cover you if you're riding in alpine areas as well. I generally take out single trip policies and tack on the flight insurance for the bike as well. Touch wood...haven't had to use it yet.

Dogtag will give cover for mountain bike racing so will Yellow Jersey but they were more expensive.

Used sportscover as suggested by Stu, can't comment on how they 'actually' perform as though

Refuse to use BMC, last time I spoke to them the guy was a tosser

I've used http://www.campbellirvinedirect.com/cidirect_home.htm in the past but not actually had to "use" them yet but cover everything I've asked them to with regards to bikes.

I used ETA Travel insurance last year when I cycled across Europe: https://www.eta.co.uk

Never had to claim but the price was very good, and covered all my gear and most of the bike.

I used these for Spain. Good cover for £20. Lots of bike related activities to choose from.

Anyone know if any of these policies include "racing"?
