PHD "Autumn Racebag"
bought last in year in their excellent sale
essentially a minimus but with a few tweaks...... check out PHDesigns.co.uk
They have used 950 fill power down in place of the minimus' 900
The outer is dryshell water resistant fabric. The top is a petrol blue the underside black
The inner is black MX fabric
Drawcord hood but no zip, comes with a PDH stuffsack
PHD rated it to 8°C which i would say is about right
325g on my scales and packs up very small
I've only used it once and so of course it's mint. I tend to use a very similar bag but rated to around freezing instead hence the sale

How "water resistant " is Dryshell?

Think I'll need a long, at 6'2ish, sorry!

PHD say "Ripstop nylon with an ultralight coating: achieves total windblock, along with high breathability and superior water resistance"
based on my experience with my other bag with a dryshell outer i would say it's great at resisting touching the condensation covered flysheet of my tent but i wouldn't ask much more of it

yes i'd agree, it's fine for me @ 6' but that's probably about the limit

Colin, I'd say the PHD covering is fine for dealing with mist when under a tarp or occasional contact with underside of same, it would also be fine for condensation when in a bivy bag but it wouldn't deal with drizzle or rain.

I'd have been interested in this but I've the PHD minimus it's based on so not much different to what I've got.

I'm interested in this - could you send a picture over please? When PhD rated it at 8 degrees is that comfort or limit?

I've a minimus too, rated at 8c. I'm not the warmest of sleepers and I'd say they are comfort ratings rather than limit.

They are crazy bags. It's hard to believe that something that small will have any warmth. But they are amazing.

I find the temp rating of PHD's spot on. I would say it's a comfort rating of 8°C. This is just wearing baselayers in the bag. You might be able to push it a bit lower with a silk liner

If I didn't already have a PHD bag rated to minus something and 650g, I'd be right into this. My feeling is the rating is true Comfort rather than Limit, and I sleep cold. My bag is the best bit if kit I own even if they are spendy - amazing how smaaaaaall they pack for the temp rating.

Comment about waterproof/resistance is realistic.
I don't miss having a zip.

I've already got a Cumulus Quantum 350, so this is a good option for me for when it's warmer as I can boost it with a silk liner and/or a down jacket, which I'd be carrying anyway.

Same here. A good price but a bit too much for a spare!

I now have too many sleeping bags though, so I'll be selling a Rab top bag soon. I think I've gone through every permutation of sleeping system so hopefully this one is perfect for my use.

The Alpkit quilt was an experiment in masochism, and it now gets used solely for hangovers on the sofa.
