Some would say at the other end of the scale might be my hero Viv Stanshall, figurehead of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. Although of course in their own way they were punk too. Introduced by John Peel, I'm listening again to a three-part Late Show "obituary special" originally shown in 1995. "I fear that a single one of Viv's thoughts would blow my damn brains out". And that's John Peel.

Pour a beer, sit back and soak up the artistry and madness.

Metallica - Kill 'em all
First time in many years, what a great album and the perfect antidote to the unrelenting dross that was '80's pop music.

First record I ever bought was The Pushbike Song by The Mixtures in 1970. How appropriate and prescient that turned out to be. The B-side was this very strange and contrasting number. I still find it rather unsettling for some reason. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CuAM4W-_Lp4

But all that was lost in the unrelenting misery that was Madonna and Kylie c***ing minogue. This drove many of us into the realms of metal which at the time was seen as being somewhat risque....
The damned's quintisessiial track is New Rose, to my mind.

First time I heard of Metallica was when I borrowed Master of Puppets from someone at school. I went and bought it that weekend (on cassette) and loved and listened to it till the tape stretched and sounded awful. I watched them on TV at Glastonbury the other year, was I disappointed, they seemed to have resorted to the typical heavy metal/rock posturing that they used to say they hated.

Aye like many (apart from Napalm Death) they became victims of their own success. Twas Justice for all for me - a teenage epiphany

On a Friday, when not at school, my Mum would take to me to the Record shop, Europa Music in Alloa, to buy a single. We'd look at the charts and pick one to buy. I'd go along with what she wanted, of course, until I asked for Golden Brown by The Stranglers. Still one of the most vaguely exciting songs ever.

Saw this recommended elsewhere.

The Metallica discussions a couple of posts ago connects nicely with a documentary I found on Netflix https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6997426/ and watched recently. The place they restored for the 50th anniversary of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is visited by the Spanish Divide route. A chunk of the restoration cost was donated by James Hetfield and an early and unique crowd funding campaign. It's a good watch.

Chandash;Thetford Feast. Some folksy protest song type group I came across decades ago at some grungy camps I used to go to.

Wet afternoon here. I'm sorting through my old CDs and reminiscing on what I used to get up to over 20 years ago and wondering about people I've lost touch with. Happily feeling a bit sad

Not listening, but watching.

I was there. Some parts gave me moist eyes, especially the kids playing. It was a good time to be a kid - we didn’t know we were poor. :???:

The Chats - Pub Feed. Not as good as The Saints, but some solid 'shed rock' from some lads on the Sunny Coast just north of here.

Yes have heard some of their stuff. I like the Goodies-style 'trandem' in this one though. The card game shenanigans look a bit like our session in The Brigands last Saturday night  .
