Allison Russell / Outside Child has had a lot of plays since setting up record player in new house. My favorite record of 2021.

And then Primal Scream's 'Give Out But Don't You Give Up'. Vinyl on this is outstanding (in case anyone's interested).

Music For Film And Theatre by polish pianist Hania Rani. Helps me find (and keep) a semblance of calm...

Also been watching Olivia Rodrigo’s take on Cruel Summer (yup, outing myself as both a Livi and a swiftie!) a lot (as in a lot!)

This was probably my favourite song of 21:

For those of an age perhaps (most of us probably...) Just watched Basically, Johnny Moped. A quirky but gentle documentary on, funnily enough, Johnny Moped. Well worth it for those with an interest in the nascent Uk punk scene.

It's on Netflix at the moment.

I'm still awaiting seeing the same show. Bought tickets Feb 2020 for London show... then... lockdown! Latest guess is 18th September 2022, two and a half years later. Worth waiting for I'm sure.

Got Undertones on 11th March at Northampton Roadmender and possibly Amyl and the Sniffers on 7th June at Oxford to keep me going until then I suppose. Sigh.

I found myself thinking about Joan Jett today - I don't really know why but it might have been a flashback to painting a CZ petrol tank in a shed 40 years ago and the only thing I could find to listen to was a Joan Jett tape. Anyway, I obviously went and found some and in turn, that reminded me about I girl I used to go out with who looked like Joan Jett - happy days

"Blur frontman and Gorillaz founder, Damon Albarn is Tom Ravenscroft’s first guest to Peel Acres; lending a hand (and two ears) in making sense of his dad’s vast record collection - tens of thousands of albums and singles collected over a lifetime. Damon first visited John Peel’s home back in the late 90s, when Blur recorded a session for his Radio 1 show."

"After John Peel's death in 2004, his family organised for an expert to catalogue the DJ's sprawling record collection.

Following a week of trawling through more than 120,000 albums, 12 inches and seven inches, at the Suffolk home affectionately dubbed "Peel Acres", the job was done.

Peel's son, BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Tom Ravenscroft, remembers the exhausted expert sitting in the family kitchen and offering a verdict: "You do realise this is the best record collection in the world?"

It's hard to argue."

I used to love listening to John Peel and am sure his record collection is mighty fine indeed but.....I'd take Gilles Peterson's collection over Peel's every day of the week (and twice on Sundays).

Not criticising Peel or his taste in the slightest but just far too guitar-y for me.

I'm sure you're right but G.P's tastes are very much aligned with mine and he goes off in all the right directions that I'm interested in exploring.

Obviously I wouldn't kick J.P's collection out of bed for farting but given the choice there's no choice.

:-bd

Yeah, either would be worth finding space for :-bd
Ron Hardy's would be my dream record collection I reckon.

Not for those who don't appreciate guitar driven tunes but for those who do, I've mostly been listening to Bo Diddley tonight.

Now, this is a recording from 1965 but he was playing like this in '55. Just imagine what that must have sounded like nearly 70 years ago. You can hear Buddy Holly, the Stones and Thorogood just waiting to get out. Lovely.

Never paid much attention to Bo, then I found out that Mark E Smith really rated him so I gave him a listen. Great stuff.

No dis to you BDS old mate, but I'd favour Gaye any time in preference. Her bass.

I’ve no idea what you were referring to but I did Google Gaye Black, she looks an interesting girl in a ‘F**k off’ tee shirt holding an SG bass :-bd
In reference to your post about the thrill of the chase RE: vinyl I’ve a nice story. I was searching for a copy of Television’s ‘Marquee Moon’ no luck, reissue sold out everywhere. Finally after lots of internet searching I found a nice 180g reissue, new. Sadly two days later I got an email saying it was actually out of stock.
I mentioned this to my son Friday night and he casually says “ I’m sure I’ve seen that in Banbury HMV” sceptical as I was I still went down on Saturday and had a search, after about 20 minutes of looking I was about to give up when In wonders none other than my Son with his friend. Son goes straight over and pulls out a single copy of said album, it’s the reissue on heavy weight vinyl, obviously it had just been sitting there for ages on the shelf and had a ‘ 2 for £40’ sticker on it.
