Managed BAM #1 last week... completely forgot to add it here. Just an extended 17 mile commute home via a pretty uninspiring route but it served it's purpose of getting me to my chosen bivvy sport for 9pm. Only a couple of miles from home and the city, so if things turned pear shaped at least I was close to home! To be fair it was okay albeit a little cold, memo to self to take a more substantial sleeping mat for this time of year. I think at this time of year it takes a bit more extra effort and commitment to get out so at least that's the first one done!

my 1st BAM last night, be it only a 4 hour effort, due to made wildlife keeping me awake.
choose a nature reserve near home...bad idea.

was snug inside my hunka.......no tarp needed on a clear cold night. woke with ice glistening all over my stuff.

looking forward to number 2 in a quieter location.

It's always best to choose a quiet location for a number 2.

Oh, and I've seen the photos. I'm not sure it counts if you can plug in your electric blanket.

1/12 for me too, a nice little ride round coed y brenin, then an overnight in the bothy.

Funnily enough I was discussing the idea with my fellow bivvy mates in work today, and I have approval of HQ (the girlfriend) to get out and do it.

So last Saturday we go out for our first of the year, we have a great location that we have permission to use, it even has a fire pit, luxury!

Finally got my bivvy in for the month, had some decorating to do across in Fife so I loaded up the road bike with all manner of bags attached to it to carry my tools and such like, TLS was definitely ignored for this trip! Plan was to cycle across there Friday night, kip in the flat, do the decorating and cycle back with a bivvy half way. What actually happened was the weather was crap so I got the train through, decorated on Saturday then headed to have dinner with some friends, ended up inebriated so bivvied in their garden and got the train home again this morning! I believe this is within the rules as it wasn't my own garden, if not let me know and I'll try to squeeze another in before month end.

Finally getting off my ass to join in with this thread, after years of checking out other people's trips. My January trip was a late night loop ride from my house. A couple of hours of Calderdale moors and then a bivvy in Hardcastle Crags woods. Then back in time for breakfast. Next month I hope to make it over to the lakes for something a little more adventurous. I've even included pics(!) - if the technology doesn't fail me now?

40 mins drive from Leeds, park up, ride out and hey presto. perfect.

Nick/Tony my hip is sorted as it's gonna be for now as is my hand and I have some leave the second half of Feb so I could do an overnight trip (slow/steady ) I'm off 17th to 27th I'd just have to let our lass know not to book shifts so sooner you pick a date the better no pressure lol

Went local last night, set up in the rain at 9:40pm, took North Face Mountain Jacket just in case...
quite comfortable lying there listening to the rain, using the jacket as part of my pillow...
Until at 3am I put the jacket on, temp down to 2degrees and going colder, but no wind...
Later on it got to -2 degrees

In the morning tarp quite a bit of frost on, and my frame bag zip was frozen

Used for pulling two sides of the tarp together, never used before... couldn't get the hang of it

Anybody know how they work ?
(I'm assuming you don't need any cord or anything ?)
