I've seen quite a few Adders in the Peak District now, all of them tiny and slow, Its a great thing too see.
In terms of getting injured by animals I'd be more concerned by cows, they're unpredictable, dirty and will f"#* you right up. I've seen a steady flow of broken humans with filthy wounds coming through work over the past few years.
I'd much rather wake up to an adder near by than a cow.
