Surely that is the perfect answer to the N+1 rule?

I'd like to do this but it's seriously close to next year's HT550 (Saturday, May 26th, 2018) which is also on my radar.

We are getting spoilt for choice :-bd

I think it's going to conflict with the Capital Trail for me, which I really want to do as I've not had the chance to do any riding in Scotland thus far.

Probably not doing the HT550 next year as I've been invited to go watch the Indy 500 with friends, but if that falls through I'll almost certainly be at the HT550.

Have spent £8k on bikes (just bikes, I'm probably double that on bikes plus parts) over the last 2 years.

I'll be n+divorce on the next one, or n-house.

Why don't bearbones make one? Paper one, for the wall.
Has been spoken about Javi and just as long as I remember to set the wheels in motion early enough, will hopefully happen for 2018 :-bd

What are the cut off times for each distance? Couldn't see it in the site

Usually as follows:

200km 14h30
300km 20h00
400km 27h00
600km 40h00
1000km 75h00

Max speed of 30kmh (!)
The control will 'close' if you travel slower than that speed. But there's no reason not to carry on just that your ride won't be validated under audax rules.

Often there would be people waiting at the finish (usually with tea and cake) so it would be good practice to let them know. However...

With this one being a series of rides of various lengths I'd guess that as there will people there from 14-27 hours meaning it will be possible to have a very steady ride round a 200 and not keep anybody waiting.

I'd check though to be sure. There's a FB group if you do that...

400 populaire is the one I'd be looking at, sounds a bit hilly!

Thinking about the 400 BR, although it looks incredibly difficult!

Appropriately difficult.

I'm not sure I can get round tbh - I'd drop to the 300 but I don't know that that would help! There's the surface element, and the climbing.... on the WRT we averaged under 10 (14 moving), so I'd hope there was a lot more road/fire road than that ride but without knowing the area have no idea! Also the fact that there's 1.5x the climbing as the Maratona, and it'll be done on a relatively loaded bike with wider tyres rather than a carbon one on glass-smooth roads makes me think the average would take a further hit. Certainly don't think there'd be any point in me taking sleep kit

I did the National 400 (partly in Wales) with 9 hours in hand, but that was all on road and had 3000m less climbing

It's probably less than 10% off road.

....just the climbing to worry about then!

Uhm, after studying the routes a little better, I'm now thinking the 300k rather than the 400k ... it's not the distance so much as the fact, that I know I'll find it hard to be arsed dropping down into Bala knowing I'll have to climb back up Hirnaunt and back over to Vyrnwy. However, there is the 'old' off-road pass that might make things more interesting.

Is that the track that goes SE through Penllyn forest to Y Groes Fagl then W to rejoin the road? Looks scenic.

It is scenic  Still a decent climb but it's over and done with fairly quickly.

I pose the question: where is the best chippy en route?

FWIW, I'll be on the Cutty with 2.1 Nanoraptors.
That's the great thing about these rides. The endless consideration of what tyres to use and what chippy to head for? Of course, get the tyre choice wrong and you'll be too late for the chippy because you were too slow on the tarmac or you punctured on the gravel. What is the sweet spot? As I say on the website, I'd like to try 650x48c Compass on my Stoater.

My choice will be between one of the 100km rides or the 400 'populaire'. My partner may come over and as she cannot cycle or drive I would then do the 100km distance.

Just looking at details of other rides included and noticed a start time of 05.45 for one and another at 06.00.
Are these mass starts or is that a route open time?

They are indeed listed as having different start times. That was the original plan, but we may move to a town center based mass start of all rides. This will depend on the result of conversations with partners in Llandrindod Wells. But we are talking +- 15 minutes here. As plans are confirmed the website will be updated and changes reflected on the AUK registration pages.
