New to the whole Garmin thing, would the maps be loadable onto basecamp(Mac) in order to route plan etc? I have the osm maps, just seems easier to do it on the same mapping that is on the unit.

Yes, that is how I was going to use it,
I already have Base Camp on my imac but I can not get it on ipads just I macs.
Also it may be my lack of pc skill but I cant unzip talkingtoaster file on my mac, but it is included unzipped on a separate Sd card.

Before you commit to anything, please just ask your what iti s about a GPS unit you want?
I would like smart phone ability with on screen routeing in the unit as opposed to on screen routeing and track recording in the unit and route planning on a desk top. FYI hence why I dont like it, call me fussy

Slightly confused here. Are you wanting to plan a route on your GPS unit in the same way that bikehike, mapmyride, bikeroutetoaster, etc. allow you to do on a desktop? Not sure that any current units allow you to do that, possibly the closest you can get is setting a waypoint (either in unit or on desktop and downloading it) and asking the unit to take you there. Depending on whether the unit has a "follow roads" feature then you'll either get a route on the roads or a compass pointing to the waypoint. The Edge Touring has a feature that auto creates looping routes from your current location but it's not really what you seem to be after.

Plan a route in the unit is what I would like, but it is not available yet a part form waypoints which is good for Rambling location finding.

I am still on maps and smart phone mapping for now.
Plud I do not doba lot of route planning to need a GPS guild and I like getting lost a bit, it takes me back to the old day of MTB-ing

PS

Now also listed on ebay.
