From London micro(brew)adventure anyone....?

Post by gairym »

Afternoon folks,

We're heading back to blighty for a little holiday and I'm being sensible and pre-planning a little overnighter to keep me sane.

I'll be based on north London and so thinking nothing too much further afield than a short train journey out of town before starting riding

Afternoon start, ride for a while, pub dinner, 10-15 tiny pints of craft beer before finding somewhere to bivi for the night.

Anyone interested?

Likely to be on the 19th or 20th of April and will definitely be more of a gentle, social ride than anything epic.

Here's some inspiration.....

I'd normally be interested in a local trip, especially as you'll be really local I think?

But I'm away on a stag do then so there's no chance, shame

Also not much of a beer drinker!

I could be interested in this, but it would need to be a proper micro-adventure for me (5pm start, be back in the City for 9am), with a minimum of offroad as I've only got my folder with me in London. Mileage isn't an issue, but I'm on 28c tyres so anything worse than fire roads is difficult over any distance...

I'm on a couse at work, otherwise I'd have suggested an overnighter in the Surrey hills' finest pubs with a scenic bivy thrown in

Windsor & Eton is a great little micro brewery and lots of green space round that way

Whereabouts in North London will you be based Gairy?

I'm working those days but might be able to sort something out.

I think he's somewhere around Hendon when he's here? Can't remember how I randomly know that, I just know it's near me!

Sorry folks, just driving back so not had much time to read stuff.

Yes, in Hendon but happy to ride from/to pretty much anywhere.

Will write more when back tonight.....

Howdy all, right I'm back in the land of WiFi etc...

First things first, it'll now have to be on the 19th as I've been volunteer'd to do something on the 20th now but no big deal.

That could work.

It's not like there's much by way of interesting singletrack around these parts anyway!

You happen to have any place/pub names to throw into the hat?

Is this near you? You around/interested?

Sounds interesting.

Depends on how my knee recovers I could join you, any time after 3pm. Back to the city very early for me but don't mind. I'm also based in the north
I've done some bits of the north part of the smoke ring until Dorking. Another easier option would be plotting a route following part of the national cycle routes.

Gairy, get a train out to Dorking and the Surrey hills are your oyster. Great pubs all over the place and one or two cracking spots for a bivy. Plough at Coldharbour, Stephan Langton at Friday Street (Leith Hill), King's Head and the Volunteer at Holmbury St Mary (Holmbury Hill) are favourites. Be happy to give you a tour next time you're in the area.

Right, I've not exactly been on top of this idea but I'm still planning on heading out if anyone is still interested.

Charlie, thanks for the Sussex suggestions, seems a good option.

So.....

Tuesday evening, heading out of London village in any particular direction (to be decided by those attending and by me if it's a solo mission - I'm easy and flexible).

A night under the cloud/smog/stars.

Ideally visiting a nice pub or brewery on the way for supplies and eats.

No problems with on/off road, mileage, start/finish times etc... would rather have company and fun than achieve anything Strava-worthy.

Anyone managed to maintain interest in this thread long enough to be still up for this?

Let me know.

Cheers.

No worries, if no one else is up for it I think I might also give it a miss as my back's feeling more than a little tender after a weekend riding Welsh trail centres on a fully rigid bike (rattled to death - was technically possible and a lot of fun but by the end I was in a bad way!).

I'll try and be more organised next time we're in town.
