To Knobble or not...

Post by Farawayvisions »

We're planning to ride the Wessex Ridgeway tomorrow Salisbury to Lyme Regis, and I'm in a bit of a dilemma.
I've been using Marathon Mondials for everything for almost 18 months and I kind of love them.
However, I'm concerned that the chalk may be claggy if it's been wet in the area and thinking about putting on the knobblies. The thing is, my knobbles look as if they've been nibbled, not by a nasty rodent, but a tad worn out.
Any ideas folks?

P.S. I will be out there for more than one day, At the rate I've been going these last few weeks, I'll be lucky to make it back in time for work on Tuesday.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know if the chalk you are traveling over is anything like the chalk mix on the Ridgeway but I would be more concerned about flint than anything else. I changed to the tallest knobblies I could when I used to ride up there and it still managed to puncture occasionally. The 'mud' drys like concrete if you don't wash off.
Sorry I sound a Jonah but apart from those two heads up have a great journey.

Where there is chalk there is usually flint.

I was pretty impressed by the Mondial 47Cs on the Ridgeway and for local Chilterns winter miles. Not as grippy as my usual front wet weather tyre a Purgatory 2.2 but still, good enough. Seem pretty tough also.

I'm doing the lazy option and sticking with the MMs. Dan changed to knobblies, so I suppose we'll be able to compare. Nearly packed up now.
