Another cracker! :)
I'll bring the Go-Pro in August.
Look like a fair bit of Type-2 going on there!

Nice edit there
Re: In To The Wind - Video from WC2C
Haven't actually seen any footage yet - memory card still in the post from Neil, but going to try and resist watching this until I've done my edit
It'll be interesting to see the differences using the same footage

Vimeo tells me the video / page doesn't exist. Even if I go straight to vimeo and search by the number in the link - nowt.

Ahhh OK. There was a typo in one of the video titles and I uploaded a new version of video the file. I expected the old one to live until the moment the new one had replaced it but obviously not.
It's in their encoding queue and is due to be live again in about 25mins.
Sorry about that all.

Inspiring stuff! Enjoyed that, thanks.
Re: In To The Wind - Video from WC2C
Great video - I remember some of those bits! The final stream near llantrwyd wells that you boys waded through was about 4-6 inches deep when I got there on Friday! Although if you continued on the track, through a horse field there was a bridge (near the farm).

Nice video Neil, great weekend thoroughly enjoyed it, even the river which looks as fierce in the video as real life

Very nice Neil ... if only we could speed up packing away like that in real life

Well done. You and Ian did talk a fair bit about filming and editing. Now I know why.
My friends all enjoyed it as well.

Excellent. Did you have to do much work to get the colour similar with the footage from three different cameras?
Re: In To The Wind - Video from WC2C
Yeah I did a lot of grading to get it all to match up. I tend to do that anyway now though as I'm always after a "look". Even one camera shoots you end up having to tweak most cuts as there will be different lighting conditions etc.

Well, it works well - love the look. Are you using Final Cut Pro? Is it just a case of adjusting each clip manually or do you have some kind of presets?

I use final cut pro to edit and in some cases the 3 way colour corrector to tweak some bits but this will be more subtle stuff to just get the general colour "right". Say for example the shot at the end of the fire didn't expose correctly and the flames came out purple. Just happens some times with when you have high contrast between dark and light. Anyway I altered the whole shot first to just get it roughly the right colour before then applying the "proper" look.InspiredRamblings wrote:Well, it works well - love the look. To get the "look" I use Magic bullet looks. This has loads of presets and I have loads of my own presets build up which I tend to flick through to start with to get some inspiration and find a general starting point that fits the piece. So is it warm, cold, shadows tinted or highlights tinted etc. etc. I then work from that and build something up. Once you have the base you then have to take it cut by cut tweaking to make it right for each shot. For instance on this video there was a lot of work to do with lifting the shadows. Also because day 1 was bright and sunny, day 2 was over cast but still quite light and day 3 bloody awful light there was a lot of tweaking to do.
I'm kind of anal though. My background is in design and I used to do a lot of photoshop stuff so I have an eye that I need to satisfy before I can leave it alone.
Re: In To The Wind - Video from WC2C
I'm working on my edit at the moment. Working in iMovie, I'm having my first dabble in correcting the exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, white balance etc manually for each clip. No previous experience - just learning as I go and writing down settings for each clip so I can compare them. Interesting exercise so far and quite pleased by how much I can tweak the different clips to get a suitable "mood", especially as I'm seeing a very different colour off Neil's camera as compared to my Contour.

Loved the two different cuts. The music was a bit too electronic for me so I turned it way down low. Perhaps I'm just a wee bit out of touch. Great job and fine adventure. Will get a read of the trip soon.
