NAWE (Not Another Winter Event) Feb 25th/26th
What it is:
End of season event.
Hopefully some/many might wanna take part.
Entry fee about £20 but goes straight into the Spot Project (https://spotproject.org/campaigns/), but subject to change and obviously no compulsion if you cannot afford or prefer to give elsewhere or not give at all (no pressure, up to you).
What happens on the dates (25th/26th Feb - final weekend of winter):
You get grid references from your partner (who's the furthest member on the map from yourself and I'm hoping someone might help me to partner/pair people up) and go ride your bike.
Obviously the grid refs are sent to you prior to the day (lets say 2 weeks in advance or whatever) and they're within a pre-chosen area of the map you've specified to your partner - some guidance will be given on how to find OS points of interest and a suitable website you could use (hoping to do some hoework and find that info from the historical Covid edition of the winter event, which this is based around).
You don't have to camp or Bivy out but it's better if you wish.. Nor do you have to find all the grid points...
oh, and in the famous words of JonC, you can sleep in your own back yard (or shed) for this one... but not in the house!
etc etc
ENTRIES
Ton (Leeds)
Shafiq (Dewsbury)
Jon/Lazarus (location confirmed later)
Verena (Brecon)
PhilFatBike (Fife)

Weekend of 25th/26th not good Jon? I can swap it as I was thinking initally to use the other method of calculating winter https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/le ... nter-start in which case it would be the middle of March...
Open to suggestions if there's lots of other events on these dates

Just checked. Lakes is 25th and 26th of March. So we will keep this as the end of (meteorological) winter and 25th/26th it'll have to be
Re: NAWE (Not Another Winter Event) Feb 25th/26th
Did the title always say the date and I was being very dim?
Ok commits to it as a 2 dayer weekend ride might even do it as another lake ride ( book nice weather will you )

Still figuring it out Ton.
1. Put down your name (done) and hopefully others will just copy and paste into your post above so we have a continuous list.
2. Finding you a partner (which we will have once some others have put down their interest).
3. Use the link I provide to make a donation (watch this space, but no pressure, little or large donations all welcomed).
4. Once paired up with the partner from across the field you lot can send each other your preferabces of where you'd like to ride and send each other suggested grid refs for the big day).
5. Hopefully get some lovely/unique pics and write about it (optional) or post soke pics (wherever/optional).

Well if you did it on another weekend and never told anyone (and kept it in winter) then no-one would ever know (right). Just saying

Now then... the distance between the furthest points is almost the same (180 miles/185 miles done via bike). So... I've paired up so:
Ton/Verena
Shafiq/Johnny
If anyone else wants to enter then feel free and we can find you a partner (to choose you your grid points).

Re: NAWE (Not Another Winter Event) Feb 25th/26th
are we having a maximum distance from home ?
Re: NAWE (Not Another Winter Event) Feb 25th/26th
Still in BUT I cannot do that weekend* so will need to be the one after.Hopefully that is still ok
Ton I assume the person says distance so mine will be about 100 miles off road ( and also going somewhere more interesting than local) - that is total ride not furthest point !
* Have kids and really cannot do anything

It is indeed Jon... All flexi isn't it. Even if we complete it before middle of March we'll have still caught some sort of winter (don't ask me which, I get confused about the ways in which it's calculated ).Lazarus wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 5:31 pm Still in BUT I cannot do that weekend* so will need to be the one after.Hopefully that is still ok

I've done a (virtual) winter event in July before now so guess you've got stacks of time yet
