I was looking at people’s ages - there’s some young ones entered (well, younger than me anyway)
To be fair, that's like Ton trying to sound surprised that there's some shorter people than him entered
Crikey  Good job Steve and not me wrote that

Just read through them all rather than just looking at the pictures. I can't wait to watch the dots :)
I did hedge my bets  Looking like the ultralight 350 is going. A chunk more weight but not much more than quilt, thermals and down jacket and warmer.

Oooh that's you? Sorry Phil, get user names mixed up somewhat.

I guess you have the luxury of being relatively local and can chop and change at last minute?

Here's my bicycle. Bivy bag, 350 quilt, and a couple more layers than 2019. Feel happy with the setup.

Not done any training this year...well I did the Dales Divide which doubled my yearly mileage in one ride 🙄. Apart from that I'm ready to get cold and wet. 😂

It's still decidedly chilly overnight up here. I cycled home from night shift on Wednesday morning and there was a ground frost (air temp was 3°c according to the work car). I put my waterproof jacket on to keep the chill off and it stayed on all the way home.

I might go and inhabit STW - less pisstaking over there apparently

I am still only 35 in my head. Body doesn't agree though.

Don't be like that. Remember, we pride ourselves on the quality of our pisstaking. You'd miss it, I'm sure.

I keep telling myself I'm only 20 unfortunately that's not base 10 and the actual base is way bigger than the number   Unfortunately the body just sits (not stands) there and thinks "Who are you kidding?"

You torqued your cranks up and slathered some high strength loctite on them Karl?! Will see you at some point tomorrow no doubt but good luck.

I thought there were a fair few oldies entered, there is hope for us yet!

Isn't one of the benefits of age increased "ultra-endurance"?

Don't worry Stu - I'm not going to flounce off anywhere. :-bd Pisstaking is good.

And yes, ultra endurance comes with age (maybe it just takes us longer to go places?)

He talks there about not taking a sleeping bag, just bivi and mat, as if it gets really bad there are bothies on route. I hope Alan doesn't get loads of hassle sorting 'rules'.
Best of luck to all.
Lots of Treks in there.

Difficult isn't it - is it only MBA bothies that are 'shut' or all bothies? What constitutes a 'bothy' and when does a shelter become a bothy and vice versa?

Well MBA bothies are officially shut and Alan has, I believe, stated that they shouldn't be used. Shelters elsewhere that are open, aren't shut and pose no greater risk than stopping at a cafe, shop, or using gate latches. There are non MBA shelters on/near the route I guess, if you know where.
I'd read that there was a requirement to carry a shelter. Guess it depends if a bivi bag qualifies.

This is a numbers thing. Sharing an enclosed space with other "households", lack of cleaning between visits, poor ventilation. These are all risk factors. One would like to think that prevalence of the virus is currently low enough that transmission is unlikely but it wouldn't be a good look if a dozen riders were all reported as being in one bothy (MBA or not).

When we rode the HT550 a couple of weeks ago we had agreed not to stay in a bothy.
I wanted to visit them though for a look around.
On the walk down to Ben Alder Cottage bothy we passed a pair walking out; said there had been three groups in the bothy that night with no issues.
Don’t think he quite grasped the notion of catching a viral infection. 🤦‍♀️
