What happened to 24 hour racing?

I used to enjoy the social aspect, but a lot of the courses i found dull and unless you're really competitive, i got tired of constantly moving to the right..

I like to push myself and for a ride to be tough, but i would rather spend a week away travelling a scenic route from A to B seeing a different part of the country (or until recently France or Belgium), i get a lot more satisfaction from that than i did going round in circles.
