I've seen quite a few Adders in the Peak District now, all of them tiny and slow, Its a great thing too see.
In terms of getting injured by animals I'd be more concerned by cows, they're unpredictable, dirty and will f"#* you right up. I've seen a steady flow of broken humans with filthy wounds coming through work over the past few years.
I'd much rather wake up to an adder near by than a cow.
Hang On, There's ADDERS In Kielder?!

Around 5 people a year are killed by cows whereas the last adder death was in 1975. The deadliest critter of all in the uk is the deer albeit the actual death is normally caused by a car hitting something much more solid after hitting the deer

Cows are the earthly manifestation of pure evil.
There are theories at the bottom of my jargon.
