Sleeping mat suggestions
It’s been a while since I’ve looked at mats.
Can anyone suggest me something for Scottish winter conditions? I’m 6ft and don’t sleep still.
If I have two large drinks first budget is up to around £200. Any more than that and I’ll have to nip down the Co op for a full bottle.
I’ve been eyeing up this https://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk ... -mat-p6650

Re: Sleeping mat suggestions
I've got one of those but the standard M. It's not bad but I don't think it's as warm as my old Synmat UL ... although on paper there shouldn't be much in it.
You can get a Downmat 7 Long / Wide for £130 (toasty but not the lightest) https://www.outdoorgb.com/p/exped_downm ... ping_mats/
Or a L/W Downmat lite for £113 https://www.outdoorgb.com/p/Exped_Downm ... eping_Mat/
Or a L/W Synmat UL for £110 ... which is probably what I'd spend my money on. https://www.outdoorgb.com/p/Exped_SynMa ... l_Pumpbag/
All the avove are rectangular so may suit a restless sleeper better than the tapered mat.

Just paid £115 for a full length Thermorest neoair. https://www.gaynors.co.uk/under-30-c271 ... -mat-p9011 Was plenty toasty last night at about -2
They do a warmer version which the above place is doing for £156.

Yeh, looking at them it seems the best balance. I sleep warm so that should cover most bases.

I'm thinking that I might use an old Thermarest under the Synmat if/when I do a summit bivvy this winter.

Re: Sleeping mat suggestions
I've got the Exped Synmat Winterlite MW. I've the tapered version which is no longer available* but the rectangular one is - https://www.trekitt.co.uk/33691/product ... g-mat.aspx £113 including the Schnozzle inflator bag. Or the slightly narrower version @ £103 https://www.trekitt.co.uk/33690/product ... g-mat.aspx (the wider version will have one extra baffle)
My wife has the hyperlite. We've used them in the Arctic so they are plenty good enough.
* actually I think they've just renamed it - https://www.trekitt.co.uk/33203/product ... g-mat.aspx

Just something I want to do at some point. Needs that perfect combination of high pressure, no wind, preferably a decent moon. Might be Braeriach.

I use a thermarest neoair xtherm. My best and favourite mat yet

Re: Sleeping mat suggestions
Could be wrong but do I remember there being a problem with the tapered ones delaminating?
Apologies if wrong about this but think I would go with the regular shape.

Re: Sleeping mat suggestions
Dunno if it was the tapered shape or a general problem with the radio welding of the baffles - I don't think there's anything different between the two shapes. My original one delaminated down one seam when I sort of half dropped on to it. It was within warranty and was replaced within a week (once I'd got back from Iceland). The replacement has been fine in the two years since but a tip I came across is to fully inflate the mat then let a little bit out, this gives the air some ability to move around and hopefully not overstrain the seams.Mariner wrote:Could be wrong but do I remember there being a problem with the tapered ones delaminating?

I had a UL LW (tapered) that blew baffles within 6weeks of warranty period run out.Mariner wrote:Could be wrong but do I remember there being a problem with the tapered ones delaminating?

My mate had the medium rectangular one that did the exact same.
Mine had seen more outings (and more weight on it ... ). I think over inflation might have been a contributing factor (blowing up by mouth you get higher than using a schnozzle).
Both were replaced on warranty without a problem once returned. Replacements came with ‘free’ schnozzle to boot!
Give the dirt a little room.
