Surly Bridge Club
Definitely in the running for the weirdest bike name ever. Anyway looks like a further variation on a theme so I guess its all about whether that theme suits anybody....

Surly seemed to have changed their style somewhat in recent months with less madness and chaos and a more subtle approach to selling stuff. Hopefully they won't go too far down the line of mundanity

Re: Surly Bridge Club
I was thinking what a 'nice' bike it was. Kind of bike that would likely suit 90% of us 90% of the time. I imagine the price will be reasonable too - wondering how much a frame only option will be?
I kind of assumed the name came from the bikes 'gap bridging' ability / character?

Re: Surly Bridge Club
i like that. nice looking bike, with proper drop out, rather that the stupid rear facing slot things, where you struggle like buggery trying to get you wheel out.
700 x 47 would suit me fine. any stock anywhere?

I like it and at $1200 (perhaps £1200?), it’s looks good value too
Also liking their new gravel bike too, the Midnight

Re: Surly Bridge Club
Ison have it listed at £1300 which means framesets, if ever available, likely to be a tad under £500.
Re: Surly Bridge Club
Is anyone else reminded of early 90's mtbs when they see this bike? Or is it just me?

Yes. I decided it's because of the stem.Kumquat wrote:Is anyone else reminded of early 90's mtbs when they see this bike? Or is it just me?

Looks great. A mate of mine said he liked it as it wasn't so specialised to be good for just one thing, it was just a bike, in a good way!Bearbonesnorm wrote:I was thinking what a 'nice' bike it was. As for the name, where's a good place to stop and get shelter when out for a ride?
Re: Surly Bridge Club
Looks like a modernised Troll, a bike I loved riding, I just need to work out how I can afford one/ get it past the other half.

Re: Surly Bridge Club
hmm, this might scratch my Surly itch AND my Plus sized itch. Being able to run 700cc wheels is an added bonus as well as 650b+ up to 2.8" tyres.
Bit disappointed to find that the rims that come with the Bridge Club will only take up to 2.5" tyres so that would probably necessitate me having to buy another wheel set.
EDIT - just read on bikepacking.com
that "the Bridge Club is fitted with WTB STP i29 rims (with a 29mm internal rim width) which should sit nicely with 2.8s – its maximum clearance". Can anyone confirm if 2.8 tyres would fit on this rim?

Re: Surly Bridge Club
A 2.8 will fit but you won't get the magical big volume benefits ... you'll mainly just be lugging extra weight about.

Re: Surly Bridge Club
As a general rule i'd say you dont want to go above a 2x rim to tyre comb.
So a i29 rim would go with a 2.3 tyre
You can go bigger, but as Stu says its extra weight without the benfits.

Re: Surly Bridge Club
Almost an Ogre but vertical dropouts. Very, very tempted, at least if I could get it frameset only.

Like that a lot. Not a particular type of bike, just a good solid bike. For a bit of every thing.

Re: Surly Bridge Club
As Stu mentioned above if you speak to Shona and Rich at Keep Pedalling I'm sure they'd supply you one of these fitted instead with a nice pair of Hope i35's for your fatter rubber.holdsteady wrote:hmm, this might scratch my Surly itch AND my Plus sized itch. Re: Surly Bridge Club
cheers for responses, it is definitely on the shortlist, along with a Stooge and a Ramin 3+ for a versatile rigid bike that can take 650b+ as well as another wheel size.
Hopefully nothing else in major in the house suddenly needs replacing and I can purchase this long awaited new bike before summer .

Re: Surly Bridge Club
I'd guess with the 29mm rim they are trying to give you the ability to run a 2.8 whilst also being able to fit a more normal 2.2. It's not going to be optimal for a 2.8 but then nothing about this bike seems to be aiming at being optimal for any one thing.
I have a 2.8 (rekon) on a 31mm internal rim, it's fine, has a good volume and I run it down at 14psi (with a tube, oh the horror). Sure it would be better on a 40mm rim but then I would be stuck with it all the time or need another wheel. (The maxxis 2.8 does seem a small 2.8 though I have been too lazy to measure it and on a narrower rim I wouldn't be being overly fair to it anyway)

Re: Surly Bridge Club
As to price, I was looking at getting another fat bike frame and liked the look of the latest Pugsley. Frame alone was quoted as £800, imagine this may be around the same?

Re: Surly Bridge Club
For those interested, Shona tells me £1300 complete but no sign of a frameset. First batch due to land third week of this month.
