Wanted: Pictures of the Road of Death.
Does anyone have any pictures of the road of death* that do it justice? Mine aren't very good and don't portray it in all its glory.

Is this the Heathrow bypass to the A4 because that is the scariest road ive ever ridden on and deserves that title

You mean Yungas Rd, out of La Paz?
Search the Big G for "road of death bolivia" and select their images section. Plenty to choose from.

No it’s the A9 into Inverness, I rode it due to a terminal navigation failure in biblical rain. 30 meter visibility, no hard shoulder with lorries thundering past. I expected to die at any momentMatt wrote:Is this the Heathrow bypass to the A4 because that is the scariest road ive ever ridden on and deserves that title

Gotta laugh at how me and Chew stopped and photoed at the same point. He was more scared of heights than me ;-)

Stu, I have a few from a number of riders, if you see any on TNR's instagram (it's an image-share social media site ) that you like I'll ask about image use for you. More out there via #torinonicerally or #1stTNR, #2ndTNR.
There's this one mine, WTB Will dodging racks. That's what he called them, "damn raacks".

Safety string
Re: Wanted: Pictures of the Road of Death.
In Italy it's known as the "Strada dell’Orrido (road of the horror)" apparently, reading a TNR blog link I was sent the other day.
The door to the so nicknamed Strada dell’Orrido (road of the horror) is a little tunnel, and a Madonna statue with a marble plate aside bearing the names of the people that found death on the road.

Looking at those shots and the rock strata, it's not what's below that would worry me but what's above
It always amazes me where and why tracks/roads like this were built.

Dave, I'm deffo doing it this year, the Vuelta route comes nowhere near us so I've been given a pass-out, we may take the camper to Nice so Trish can have a week on the beach and I'll get the train to the start.
Re: Wanted: Pictures of the Road of Death.
Grrrr....stop it fellas....I have unfinished business there (Sampeyre gravel + Via del Sale). Guess I'd better get my pass sorted earlier this year.

Re: Wanted: Pictures of the Road of Death.
Great news
We've just had a chat and hatched a plan. I'll drive the camper to somewhere like here
http://www.parcdesmaurettes.com/en/ and get a train to Turin. Trish is understandably not keen to drive the van through the alps having dropped me off. The site looks well located, about 400m from the beach and 200m from the station which allows access to Nice or Cannes, she's probably going to take a bike so can go cycling with Helen if she wants.
Just need to shoehorn some 40mm tyres into the gravel bike, fit lower gearing and bags and I'm good to go!

Look forward to seeing you both down there Duncan. Helen is going to meet me at the end but may well be up for some riding near Nice. I'm going to fly to Turin
