Bivvy a month 2018.
Soon comes round doesn't it ... so here we go again
1/ At least one night out during every calendar month throughout 2018.
2/ A single trip taking in both the last night of one month and the first of the next, will count as two months if you wish.
3/ No paid for accommodation inc' campsites or hostels.
4/ A bike must be involved - it's bikepacking, the clue's in the name.
5/ Your own garden doesn't count, although next doors does ... if you must.
6/ Post each trip here in as much detail as you like, pictures are good. One post for each month please.
Anyone completing BAM next year by the guidelines below will be eligible for a special momento to mark their 'achievement'.
Obviously, you're entirely free to do things your own way and ignore the above.

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
While not in keeping with the whole idea of "a month", I'm hoping to do a "bivvy a season 2018" with my 4 year old in tow. Probably taking a fairly loose view of when winter stops, but hoping to get it done... Should be some interesting photos of a bike + tagalong with bike packing gear!
I'm happy to move this to a different thread of it's too off topic?!?

Oh gawd...nooo-o-o-o-o.... it's like Groundhog Day... . In fact there's some quite applicable quotes aren't there: "I'm not going to live by their [The Normals] rules anymore", "You want a prediction about the weather? It's going to be cold, it's going to be dark and it's going to last you for the rest of your lives!", "Okay campers, rise and shine, and don't forget your booties cause its cold out there...its cold out there every day"
"My God, Ponsonby, I'm two-thirds of the way to the grave and what have I done?" - RIP

I might do a bivvy-a-month but probably under my rules and not Stu's. I have some routes in mind that will be about hiking and/or paddling.

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
As this will be my first year bikepacking I'm gonna have to give this a go , I'm pretty lucky work wise as I work 4on 4off so if I do come up with a " a lack of time this month" excuse , you are more more than welcome to publicly reprimand me as sometimes extra motivation maybe needed

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
After a couple of years of not even attempting the BAM I'm back in the game!
These first two months are going to be fun with such cold temps and so much snow around but that's just part of the fun, no?
Better go dig out my winter bag.....

I wish there was snow! Just cold waterlogged peat here; I really do need a bathtub floor

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
Ordinarily I'd agree but currently there's over a metre of it in the valley bottom and so choosing/clearing a spot is a tad tricksy.Moder-dye wrote:I wish there was snow! Just cold waterlogged peat here; I really do need a bathtub floor

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
In for this year still got a bit of bothy bagging to do round here so that should see me through the coldest months
Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
This is one of my "aims" for this year. So consider this my LOI.
Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
Right you are, lets get this party started.
January 1st, bivvy out up the forest with Hux. Few beers and some food followed by a night at the Cadbury Hut on the porch.
The sky was so clear last night with a full moon and stars, the temp was amazing so mild and so light but by 5am it was dark and cold with rain in the air. Hux left me at 7 this morn and headed back for work , i decided to take a lie in till 9 only to be disturbed by a dog walker
I got up and rode the forest which is in dia state, the mud and rain run off was horrendous so a brew in the visitor centre then back to kiddy via some BW and canal. My first ride and bivvy for 18. 24miles in

Rode a modified Twyi ton route yesterday/today and spent last night at Claerrdu bothy.
I must admit riding/pushing over Carnau last night wasn't my brightest route choice, arrived quite wet !!
Oh and it was a tad windy as well

I suppose with the winter event I’m in
We’re all individuals, except me.
I woke up this morning but I’m still in the dark
