A new event - possibly.

If it involves a camping weekend would be interested.
Like the idea of no pitting as then no penalty for not having helpers, and encourages riders to ride to the event, take part and ride home, old skool
How about a bonus lap for those that ride there, camp and race.

Re: A new event - possibly.
Having ridden a bit of technical singletrack on my CX yesterday I was contemplating this event and thinking how much potential for falls and thus injury there would be. That may just be me & my inability to ride technical sections on my CX though.Bearbonesnorm wrote: 40% singletrack ... some fairly technical.

Re: A new event - possibly.
Just a thought. If it's a 10km lap, might a 'winner is the one how does the most laps in (5?) hours" format work better than a fixed 100km?

I think that might work for shorter laps but with a 10k lap, I can see a large number of folk finishing with the same number of laps. First across the line might also encourage a sprint finishIf it's a 10km lap, might a 'winner is the one how does the most laps in (5?) hours" format work better than a fixed 100km?

Yeah, for my suggestion to work you'd have to do it like, for example, Rad am Ring. There's is a 26km lap, and the winner from those completing an equal number of laps in the 24 hours is the one who completed that lap first. Still gets you the sprint finish :)Bearbonesnorm wrote:I think that might work for shorter laps but with a 10k lap, I can see a large number of folk finishing with the same number of laps. But a set distance works too. I'd just retire the next time I finished a lap after someone had won, otherwise I'd be still be going round long after everyone else had gone home!

Re: A new event - possibly.
Hello people ... it appears that this is probably a 'goer'. Very similar to what has already been mentioned earlier in the thread.
The date for your diary is (hopefully) March 31st
10 x 10km laps.
100% off-road.
No pitting or back-up.
All bikes to be fitted with tyres smaller than 2" OR 3" and above.
All bikes will have 'drop' bars fitted ... ie the controls must be lower than the stem centreline.
Here's a route profile to keep you entertained.
I'm also trying to figure out whether a post race get together is also possible.
More as I figure it out.

Sounds good to me.
So probably evil and twisted to most 'normal' people's point of view. Excellent!

Am I allowed to retire early after the winner's won?

Yeah, let's call it 50c for those of a foreign disposition.below 2" you say
Ooh, should maybe have mentioned that besides surfaces of a gravel type nature, there'll also be some sections which could be described as 'mountainbikey'. Factor in the ups and downs and I'm not sure that any one type of bike has the edge.

I just needed another reason for the bike. It'll be hindered by me, never mind the terrain so no delusions of an advantageBearbonesnorm wrote:Yeah, let's call it 50c for those of a foreign disposition.below 2" you say

So that's 4600m of climbing over 100km, i.e 3+ times Ben Nevis from sea level. Interesting.

Aside from one very short but steep climb (which is rideable for those with the legs / head for such things), the whole lot is 100% rideable John.No mention of bog snorkling or tussock pushing.....?

Doesn't effect my attendance either way, but presumably "no pitting" means carry everything with you? No caching of extra water or twiglets at the start to pick up x laps in?
