Rear mech hanger
Any bright ideas as to how I can track down one if these that came off my Burls? I have asked Burls direct but could really do with one asap

Has it not got a number on it Dave? Should be able to match it up if it has ... and maybe even if it hasn't.

No number and Burls reckon that dodgy Scottish scotsroutes bloke changed it before selling to me. Independence can't come too soon

Re: Rear mech hanger
LOL. The Burls arrived with a bent hanger and Justin had to send me a new one.
I wonder if the bent one is still kicking around though.....

Re: Rear mech hanger
I recall one of my local lbs had a mech hanger chart with nearly every shape on it when I needed a one that was unstamped.
Re: Rear mech hanger
As mentioned already, betd.
I got one for my OO from there, was a boardman one but I imagine most designers will incorporate a current hanger in a frameset for economic reasons.
I just trawled through the picture page with my old one in front of me. Tedious but ultimately effective. I used my iPad so I could scale the image and sit my hanger on top for a match.
There really are hundreds on there so I suggest getting the kettle on and biscuits at the ready

Re: Rear mech hanger
I've just been told
Wheels Manufacturing have it as part no: WMD142.

Cheers Boss - that was me. :)
Wheels Manufacturing are distributed by Madison, and nearly every bike shop in the UK will have an account with them. They're pretty good at sorting deliveries asap too - unless you've found one already.

Re: Rear mech hanger
Dave, have you sorted this? If not I'll have a look in my spares box as it resembles an On One or PX XLS. Maybe not much use if you need it this weekend.

Re: Rear mech hanger
the CNC ones on here http://gearmechhanger.com/epages/950018 ... Hangers%22
seem much better and are roughly the same price, i sent them a photo of mine 'fatty trail hanger' and got a much stronger one for 20 quid :)

Surely the point is that you don't want a stronger one?

Worth knowing about - so thanks from me.Lawmanmx wrote:the CNC ones on here http://gearmechhanger.com/epages/950018 ... Hangers%22

But there is a but (and someone got there before me), which is these things are sposed to be sacrificial. You want them to be weaker than the bit of frame they bolt to....
If it turns out that nice tough cnc machined replaceable drop out is tougher than your frame...
see where I'm going with this? It's just a thought.

Oli is right and the one in there snapped beautifully saving my rear mech and the frame.

They are the mechanical equivalent of a fuse. On farm machinery there's typically a "shear bolt" or similar, if something jams the machine then this snaps, shears, and the power from the tractor doesn't do any damage trying to force things to keep going.Dave Barter wrote:Oli is right and the one in there snapped beautifully saving my rear mech and the frame.
Better weight than wisdom, a traveller cannot carry
Re: Rear mech hanger
i know what your saying but my OO hanger used to bend in a strong breeze, it caused loads of shifting probs and 2 destroyed mechs (no impacts involved either) and the new CNC one has had no problems sinceScotRoutes wrote:Surely the point is that you don't want a stronger one?
Re: Rear mech hanger
Indeed. Stronger is not always bad - sometimes it's a useful thing - but there's times when it's not. Some of the better quality children's bikes (no names ) come with replaceable drop-out/hangers these days and 'sometimes' the metal flange that holds them on is thinner than the hanger, with the result that the frame gets borked when the flange bends into a silly shape while 'careful dad' hauls the thing in and out of the car. Not me in this instance.
It's fab that different options are available.

It's the same as the "lightweight gene" which southerners possess - it kicks in after two pints of lager top and shuts their whole system down, neatly avoiding any potential harm caused by a hazardous third pint.whitestone wrote:They are the mechanical equivalent of a fuse.
