Natural carbon marks?
So I bought some new forks from the states and the carbon is natural finish just flat matt. There are a few marks in the carbon that I thought looked odd so took them to the concept store in brummie land and they said it is nothing to worry about as carbon is like this in its natural state. He showed me some carbon Rd bikes and they to seemed to have marks maybe not as bad . Just wondering if anyone else has noticed anything g of the like on their carbon stuff??
Re: Natural carbon marks?
Do they look like little popped bubbles without one side?
Re: Natural carbon marks?
Is it the lacquer or is it the actual carbon Mike?
In my experience 'raw' carbon scratches really easily, that's why it's usually lacquered..
Some of the lacquer has come my frame near the BB, it's surprising how much the 'raw' carbon underneath has scratched. The marking is only cosmetic though, not structural..

My Carbon Jones bars have a flat mark that looks like a bubble. Been fine for over 2 years.

Pretty much what I was going to explain.mountainbaker wrote:My Carbon Jones bars have a flat mark that looks like a bubble. Been fine for over 2 years.
They are possibly release marks from the mould. Perfectly normal.

My Spesh Camber has this and I asked about it was told it was normal, however as I was riding one day the frame exploded and took both my legs off which meant I had to drag my torso, legs and broken bike bike to the car like a two armed snail and then drive home using my arms on the pedals and steering with my teeth. Thank god it was an automatic or I'd have been stuck in 1st.!!
(or.... My Spesh is the the same and is fine...)
