Re: Highland Trail Sweepstake - don't be shy.
Entries are now starting to come in at a steady rate, so don't be shy and remember there are no losers - not only do you have the chance to win a sizeable, almost pension sized lump sum should 'you' win, you'll be helping a good cause whatever the outcome. So, put your hand in your virtual purse and make the world a brighter, happier place
Oh and in case anyone is wondering what the 'worthy cause' is, I think it seems fitting to make it Scottish Mountain Rescue.

Is it worth doing some kind of second competition so if you end up with a donkey then at least you can take part? Like a wooden spoon prize for slowest finisher, or perhaps taking a bet on the mid-placed finisher time?
I'm just trying to minimise the disappointment of whoever picks me.

Looks like I'm in as well, the likelihood of £10 straight to Scottish MR is high. That's no bad thing.

I'm in. I've sent you £20.00 Stu. Put £10.00 of it against #29 as a donation to Mountain Rescue in memory of Mike

With mention of donkeys, I'm actually wondering whether a donkey might be quite good at this? Able to carry heavy loads, don't need much in the way of fuel (no stopping for pizza) and appear to have an ability to just keep plodding along for days on end ... donkey for the win maybe

I'm in... spoke to Shona and Rich at DR and they said they were doing it (which seems doubly crazy 'cos they'll know what they are in for )

Aye, I was chatting to her on the phone the other day and told her they were both mad ... following last year, her biggest concern seems to be finding some shoes that won't self-destruct before they make it to the finish.I'm in... spoke to Shona and Rich at DR and they said they were doing it (which seems doubly crazy 'cos they'll know what they are in for )

Actually Richard, I was just going to post and let people know that there's still places left and as it stands, the purse is certainly worth winning.Any spaces left? I fancy another entry.

To whoever gets #48, sorry, but on the plus side you've made a nice charity contribution
Re: Highland Trail Sweepstake - don't be shy.
If this one fills up can we have another for the winning time?
I'm guessing 3:18:30 and that more than one person will break 4 days this year...

Re: Highland Trail Sweepstake - don't be shy.
Sub 4 days has to be the target for a few, but very weather dependant.
I know it has been dry, therefore faster, but this week is a bit damp so that will soften the top layer a bit......
I also think amore than 1 will break 4 days, and the fastest time will be 3:20:10

Some proper monsters out there to be able to do it in those sorts of times. Crazy.
Re: Highland Trail Sweepstake - don't be shy.
I dont think it's been as damp up here as it has been further south. We've still had reports of wildfires every couple of days and everything is very dry.slarge wrote:I know it has been dry, therefore faster, but this week is a bit damp so that will soften the top layer a bit.....
We're close enough now that we can have a little bit of faith in the long-range forecasts (maybe?) and it looks like there isn't going to be much more rain before the start.
Re: Highland Trail Sweepstake - don't be shy.
I was umming and ahhing about bringing a water filter - if there isn't much rain then I think it is a definite yes.
Stu, how many tickets have gone?

Rivers are currently very low (I was along the Feshie today and there were a couple of spots it looked like I could have got across with dry feet!). Trails are dry and dusty.
Of course, that could all change in a few days. A filter seems like a good idea at the moment. I thought we were due a wet one after last year.

Thanks Colin. Good Intel.ScotRoutes wrote:Rivers are currently very low (I was along the Feshie today and there were a couple of spots it looked like I could have got across with dry feet!). Trails are dry and dusty.

I'll happily take a repeat of last years weather. Don't believe it will happen though!
