WRT - feel free to join us (LHC splinter group)
Hi, I am looking for a few more riders to join our small team for the WRT.
With a great deal of generous support from Bearbonesnorm, I have built a route that is technical, remote and avoids roads as much as possible: including a few secret trails that are not even on the map (assuming I can find them!) The plan is to set off with enough supplies to be self-sufficient for the three days, however, there will likely be one cafe stop and the potential to pass by a BP garage on day 2.
The route overview:
-Saturday afternoon- 1st leg: 24 miles, 3000 feet.
Narrow windy trails and technical riding leading to a forested bivi spot by a lake. A route designed by Stu to take in the best trails leading us out of Pennant and down towards Nant-y-moch reservoir.
-Sunday morning- 2nd leg: 22 miles, 3000 feet.
Starting with a short 5 miles ride to a cafe for a hearty breakfast, followed by a further 17 miles of twisty off-road riding. We will pass by a BP garage for some basic supplies (if needed).
-Sunday afternoon- (There is potential for the group to split at this point and then regroup at the bivi spot.)
3rd leg: Option A - 38 miles, 4000 feet.
A tour around the Elan valley reservoirs for some remote and gentle scenic riding, then heading north up to a forested bivi spot by a waterfall.
OR
3rd leg: Option B - 19 miles 2000 feet.
Take a short-cut that misses out the reservoirs but ends up at the same bivi spot by the waterfall.
-Monday morning- 4th leg: 16miles, 1500 feet.
A final chance for some twisty trails and technical riding through Hafren forest - taking in some off-piste descents as recommended by Stu.
Monday afternoon - 5th Leg: Back to reality.
If you are interested to find out more please pm me and I'll ping you the gpx files and more detail about the team (none of whom have met face-to-face yet). Otherwise, you will find me at the Lonely Hearts Club section on the morning of Saturday 29th, where I will be happy to compare maps and discuss the plan. Anyone is welcome to join us for all or any part of the route.
Looking forward to seeing all fellow WRT riders at the weigh-in on Saturday 29th!
Cheers,
Simon72

Re: WRT - feel free to join us (LHC splinter group)
I may very well end up joining one of these sorts of groups as I appear to have picked up a hamstring injury during the Braunton 150. I'm really hoping it heals by the WRT, but I'm keeping my options open.

hi,
could you send me the GPX? Not sure what to do; was thinking of going bothying and geocaching.

Re: WRT - feel free to join us (LHC splinter group)
Looking at some of these routes and groups I reckon that just after 1pm(?) Sat at BBT will closely resemble the scene below. And the no-prize (sorry) question is who can name ALL the Wacky Racers? NO cheating either! Even more fun might be to match each Wacky Racer to a well-known BB-er
PS> Our pub visit's all sorted - they've had to draft extra staff in to cope with us . And they said if we can't be bothered to complete the WRT after our 10-course meal they have rooms spare so that's a highly tempting offer .
PPS> Yes I know the whole thing's meant to be a spontaneous devil-may-care owt-can-appen go-with-the-flow doss-under-a-hedge affair. Sod that, there's log fires to be sat in front of and stared into, glass in hand.

Hey Reg, You have a point, it will likely be quite busy at the LHC stand next Saturday. I am proposing the below image as the logo for the LHC splinter group (provided Barebonesnorm doesn't claim copyright infringement) - I will be wearing this on a T-shirt so you can spot me easily.

Re: WRT - feel free to join us (LHC splinter group)
Despite having signed up for this early on, due to being abroad, coming back, moving house and starting new work, I've only just looked at the grid references (I'm fairly sure it was the same story last time I came), so this route is looking like a nice option that means I don't need to sit down with the nightmare that is Basecamp this week... Also, I'll be coming on my own and it would be cool to ride with some other folks...
I can see the route in sections on GPSies and think I've downloaded it in full from OutdoorGPS...
See you on Saturday

Nice one. See you there.
I've managed to get an early escape from work on Friday so hope to make it to the Star Inn well before closing for a few beers.

For some reason that's obviously known only to me, I spent considerable time planning details and writing them down in a finely crafted email a month before the start. This year's makes special mention of the Star Inn and their kind offer to let WRT riders sleep in their car park or pitch a small tent on their land. All you need to do is let them know to expect you, as they'd hate to run out of food or ale.im traveliing down friday night probably sleep in my car somewere
