I have a route done, I think

We have it split pretty equally over three days with a total of 232 kms and 5778 m climbing, but I have also drawn up a bolt on optional extra for the second day which would add an extra 32 km and 826 m elevation.

Barely picked up half of the NGRs so anyone who goes hunting for the lot is most brave!

We're heading for Rhayader for Saturday tea then on to Goginan on Sunday, planning on bivvying somewhere in NyA as doubt landlord of Druid will let us camp in his back garden again ( ). 175k (107miles) and 5098m of climbing, some checkpoints, some nice trails that we know well, one or two new bits to explore, hoping to not be last back this year, unfortunately only 3 of us coming (we all missed last year), but really looking forwards to it.

Looks good George, similar but longer than ours! Are going clockwise or anti-clock?

Quick Q — is it hike-a-bike or rideable, up and over Drygarn Fawr? (869 585) I can't tell from satellite view.

I've not been over Drygarn Fawr but have been over Carnau from Jones' Trails at Trallym. It's pretty bleak up on the top from what I remember and, as Stuart says, a mix of rideable and hike-a-bike. The "bridleway" isn't always apparent on the ground...
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Thanks both. Hopefully I'll be over it before midnight, although if the skies are clear then might make a superb star-watching vantage point ... although I see we're forecast "weather" instead.

Thinking about it, I'm pleased someone's thinking of heading over there. If the weather's clear, it'll be superb. If it's not, then it'll at least be memorable and a good story ... which at the end of the day, is all we've really got.

If Matt can find a new pair of legs for Saturday he's going over carnau.

That was the plan and maybe wenchie.
She's probably got the most mobile legs between the three of us at the moment.

Squinting at George's route it appears to include the Monks Trod too? After the dryish weather we've been having recently I guess it's as good at time as ever!

As everyone seems to be sharing...

Image

Distance: 214 miles (346km)
Climbing: 24,977ft / (7613m)

However, I'm probably going to have to cut that down on the fly as my hamstring is still not 100% and I can't risk making it worse. Will see how it goes though.

Uhm, nice to see you branching out east Richard. Some great trails over there that people seem to have largely ignored.

I may just ignore all the GR's completely and whizz up to cadair idris on Sat afternoon then come back down on Sunday for a tour of the reservoirs before finding my way back to Pennant on Monday.

I've just realised... I actually have places I can buy food and drink on this year's route! Unthinkable.
