Wheel build help.
I'm currently looking to buy spokes for my new wheel build, but they are generally about 2mm diameter and the spoke hole diameter of my hubs is 2.5mm, does this matter?
Also, any ideas about the best place to buy spokes?
Many thanks
Ben.

Re: Wheel build help.
Spoke hole versus spoke width is irrelevant, because the spokes must fit through the holes, and the spoke head is what holds them in place.Ben98 wrote:I'm currently looking to buy spokes for my new wheel build, but they are generally about 2mm diameter and the spoke hole diameter of my hubs is 2.5mm, does this matter?

In terms of buying spokes, eBay is sometimes good depending on the length you need, but I generally just use my LBS as it's 50p each there.
Re: Wheel build help.
If I'm getting 64+ spokes then the German sites are usually cheapest even with a few quid international postage.

If you're not looking for anything fancy, ACI double-butted are great value, half the price of DT Swiss and Sapim alternatives and you'd struggle to tell the difference. Try sdeals.com or cyclebasket

1+ for the man like Spokesave!
Nothing fancy, just decent stainless spokes that build up well.
Never had a problem.

Re: Wheel build help.
If your really concerned you could use washers.

Re: Wheel build help.
Spoke washers are usually used at the rim end of the spoke to spread the losing force on the nipple to a wider area on the rim. The holes being s bit bigger on the hub will not be a problem. The spoke head will find its centre when it is tensioned up.
