Does anything happen in August?
I guess there are too many midges for the Highlands and too much heat (and thunderstorms) for Southern Europe, but as I will probably have to take some holidays then it would be nice to do an event, if there was anything going on.
Anybody aware of an 'event' I have missed or have any ideas/plans for an August get-away?
Just had a look on http://www.thebesttimetovisit.com/weath ... august.php
If I filter places with >10 days of rainfall, and Max Temp > 25C, it would appear the 'best places' are:
Peru
Reunion (?)
Mongolia

Re: August
The Yorkshire Dales 200 is in August.
Edit: Just checked the BB calendar, it's on the 26th August.

a bit out of my league though: http://www.a-crossthe5.be/
could extend this with a couple of days up on the moors, the heather is a stunning colour that time of the year: https://aggregate100k.uk/

ACT-5 sounds interesting; would like to know more about the route - like what their term "pure mountain biking" means. From the few photos it looks like pretty tame forest trails (dare I say, 'gravel bike' territory?).
Starting to think about going back to Kyrgyzstan - had a great time on a supported tour their several years back. Anybody else interested?

Re: August
Spent many years Up North, and it can be great, but just too unreliable for me to invest in a trip there at that time of year.
Some people have raved about Iceland, but with bucket loads of rain and wind, I might as well go to Scotland...!
