Scottish Highlands Winter Bivi Dec 10/11

Post by ScotRoutes »

Just thought I'd "formalise" this and throw it open to anyone else who might just happen to be in the area.

Current plan is to meet at the Garth Hotel in Grantown on Spey at 12:00 on Saturday.

After a quick lunch we'll head down the Dava Way to Forres and then to Findhorn. It's around 55km, easy cycling. Lights will be required given it's getting dark around 15:30.

Ale and dinner at the Kimberley Inn.

A wee ride along the coast towards Roseisle Forest to find a suitable pitch and that's us for the night.

Sunday morning will reverse the ride, getting back to Grantown for about midday again.

Looks like four of us signed up already.

Yeh, thanks indeed to Colin for organising the fine weather we had, as well as the trip in general.
Fine ride into Findhorn,, Neil(Metalheart) setting a good pace through the final woodland stretch of the Dava way, fun doing the single track with the lights on.
After a good meal in the Kimberley inn we took a ride along the sand/pebble path through the dunes and along the shore edge. No one went over the edge onto the beach but there were a few missed turns, my comedy fall just 50mtr from the campsite a particular highlight!!
Today was a well paced ride back, soft ground taking it's toll toward the end. The old railway bed and a root section at the end played havoc with my hands and other "contact" points given the 40mm tyres I chose to ride on
Still, great trip and hopefully the start of a few more through 2017, thanks again Colin.

The driest, warmest one?

Course, there's always the option of a hogmanay one
Actually, I might be a little serious about that...

Gari: thanks for your 'pep talks' and company at the back. It all helped.

Don't know you guys spotted but colin and I stuck some photos up on the winter bivy thread...
