Wanted - seatpack, 13 litre or similar

Post by Retiredtester »

I'm looking to move away from panniers and try a seatpack for a forthcoming trip, but reluctant to drop 80 quid plus on something I may not get on with. if anyone has anything large (13 litres or so) that is surplus to requirements, please give me a shout.

Cheapest option is an Alpkit Airlok tapered 13l? It has all the webbing etc, you just need a couple of bits of velcro

The Alpkit bags are OK, but aren't as structurally stiff/rigid as more 'standalone' seatpacks (it's designed as an inner bag really).

I've got decent results by:
1) Make sure the narrow end (where it attaches to the seatposts) is really tightly packed. Use small items like socks, pants etc to really fill the space.
2) Stiffen the bottom of the bag. I use my folding bowl for this.
3) Using lots of velcro round the seatpost, going through as much of the daisy chain webbing as I can.

Looks like another good option, but I think I'm going to give the alpkit one a go. That way, I can always use it as the drybag in a proper holster if I decide to go down that route.

Good call, I’ve a Wildcat Tiger Drover and it’s a great bit of kit, the removable drybag is excellent and the harness can stay on the bike with no faff

Nice one - that's exactly the kind of thing I'll look to upgrade to, assuming I can ditch the panniers...

Watching it already thanks! It'll inevitably go for at least 85% of the new price though...

I've got one of them. Cracking bits of kit. Also have the bar harness. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.
However, if you want "my first seat pack", I still think trying the alpkit bag is the best, first step.
