Brand new Enlightened Quilt

Post by ZeroDarkBivi »

Just arrived today, never left the house, but I ordered the wrong version!!! I wanted a sewn footbox (Enigma), as I have bad circulation to my feet, but ordered an open footbox (Revelation - it has a drawcord, and can be closed - more flexible, but not what I wanted) - Gutted!!!

I spent ages researching the various options for an ultra-light summer racing sleep-system, and having used many combinations of down bags and bivis from niche specialists like PHD, MLD, Z packs, etc, this was the best insulation I could find that would be suited to warm damp conditions (UK summer) where condensation is unavoidable on multi-night trips. With no hood it is less claustrophobic and better for restless sleepers (no waking-up in a damp patch where your breath has 'wetted-out' the hood), and can be combined with your warm hat of choice, if needed.

The temp range can be expanded by wearing extra clothing layers underneath, such as merino underwear or a down vest/jacket. When combined with a light down bag (inside) it will also offer not only extra insulation, but increased resilience to dampness ( inevitable in a small tent or bivi bag), providing a 3+ season solution.

More details here:

https://enlightenedequipment.com/quilts/

The spec is:

Revelation Apex (synthetic insulation)
Temp rating: 10 deg C
Size: Short (5'6") / Slim (50")
Fabric - Outside Black (10D) / Inside Red (10D)
Weight - 295g (claimed) / 281g (actual, on my digital scales, which I believe to be accurate)
Organic Cotton storage bag!

Cost:
$165 (no import duty or Royal Mail charges this time) + $46 shipping = approx £163

15% discount for my stupidity = £140

A very specialist item, but one that I think offers many advantages for those focussed on optimising their sleeping options.

Any interest?

PM me for photos - it is identical to the images on the website - packing slip / receipts all available.

If you really want to sell. Am interested but not sure if it would be a little too snug.

Definitely replacing it with the Enigma (same spec), but it is a lot of money if there is any doubt about fit; unfortunately I live at the other end of the country and not going north for a few weeks. I'd rather just take the hit and return it to EE rather than disappoint, and I need to make that decision quite soon.

I've got a revelation and with the foot box zipped up I can't imagine it being noticeably colder than the sewn version? I think the zip is a fantastic idea as it lets me use the quilt even on warm nights (mine is the -1 C version)

Same, I can't see the difference and I have cold feet.

Not sure you'd notice the difference

No longer available - it went back to EE for an exchange.

Don't know how to edit the thread title!
