Scottish Spring Thing

Post by Blair512 »

Just seen the thread for the southerners "spring thing" event. Anyone north of the border fancy a get together?

I know we had talked about heading out to Crammond Island on the winter bivvy, perhaps we could revisit this idea before it becomes warm enough for the local yobs to have the same idea?

I'm in :-bd . Low tides 7pm and 8am, generally a two hour window each side.

Sounds like perfect times Ray, do some riding in the pentlands, a few beers in the boozer and then get across there at the back of 7.

I've never ridden the Pentlands, does anyone know any good routes up there?

Plenty of choice up there Blair and we can use the Capital Trail route to get us from there to Cramond.

Depending on the dates, I'd be up for it.

Will be good to see you again Alan, looking to do it on Saturday 25th of March, the same weekend as the Southerners.

Isn't it just Ray, it will be good to get some nights out with company this year, most of my BAM's last year were solo efforts.

I'm interested in this. I'll check if dates suit.
I could meet you in pentlands somewhere.

Indeed it is, off to see T2 tomorrow night, hopefully there's not any junkies hanging round when we're there!

Sorry Blair but I can't do the 25th. Junior has round 1 of SXC MTB the next day.

Hopefully we can catch up some other time.

I'm a maybe for a bivi as I'm busy the two weekends prior, but could certainly stitch together a route through the Pentlands as they're my local stomping ground, and possibly join you for it.

Would be nice to see what you come up with Alisdair, I'm sure you know lots more tracks than me. If we're meeting at Waverly then we would hit the Pentlands at Bonaly after coming up the Water of Leith.

That's a pity Alan but as Ray says there's plenty of time, I'm sure we'll get a bivvy in at some point

That would be good Alasdair, I could but something together but it would be pure guess work from Strava route builder so your local knowledge would be much appreciated

How far do people want ride? This comes in at 40 miles day one and 23 miles day two. Day one can be shortened if required and day two could be a ride over The Forth Road Bridge instead (the span of the new bridge is now complete so may be worth a view) then back along the seafront and on to Waverley Station.

Sorry for the delay in replying Ray, it's been hectic at work. Route looks good to me. Like I said I've never ridden the Pentlands before so it'll be good to get out there and see what it's like.

Hi guys, I would like to provisionally put my name down for this too (just me, I will leave the boy at home). When I lived in Edinburgh I used to ride a fair bit in the Pentlands and know the Water of Leith path well so It would be nice to revisit and also meet some of you all.
Cheers,
Bridget

More than welcome.

What time of day do people want to meet? 10am at Waverley station would give a fairly relaxed day.

And talking of relaxing, I suggest you bring ear plugs as Cramond Island is fairly close to the airport flight path. The number of flights reduces considerably overnight though.
