I started the Via/Ruta de la Plata southbound from Santiago de Compostella. Is that in Galicia? Flew direct with EasyJet.

Nah - Galicia is the top left hand corner.
Not been there but have ridden three Spanish camino routes, including the Camino Frances which passes through Galicia. Info here if you are interested:

Sorry, I just read 'Ruta via de la Plata' which runs up the middle of the country. Or at least it did when I did it.

Santiago de Compostela is in Galicia.

After googling, there is a route that starts and head off to the Ruta. One of the pilgrim ways I think.... Camino de Santiago de la Plata infact...

Both. If you are using any of the refugios on a pilgrims trail you will need a pilgrims pass.

Borderer - they must have moved the trail since I did it. As it used to be along the very west edge of Spain. (Don't include Portugal)

As well as Weirdos on Bikes blog describing the Ruta John Hayes blog illustrates the Dehesa, Roman archaeology and best of all his Reilly Gradient on the Ruta del plata. Both accounts are full of info. Johns includes the links into Santiago Compestalla But best do it quick because he's writing a cicerone guide for it due to be published in 2020. http://www.johnhayeswalks.com/2018/07/t ... -2018.html I did a two week trip on a rigid, early generation rockhopper (with panniers but this was a long time ago!) around the Picos and Asturias and was camping - I travelled to the area by Brittany ferries. Planning to go back next year and ride the Ruta de la Plata South to North.

I recommend travelling in Spain in Spring, its alot greener, there are very cheap ferries to Bilbao, no one is patrolling the no camping zones by the beaches and the forest fire risk is much lower. And less tourists in the hotspots. When you have Spanish sun a few showers (or night frosts) are fine, stuff dries out really fast in a sunny period.
Late summer can be uncomfortably hot.

The coast of Galicia is the most interesting bit, inland its comparable to rural England with vastly less motor traffic. Stone walls with moss on top, oakwoods to camp in, shared with long horned cattle with cowbells.

I did Bilbao, Oviedo, Santiago, Elvas, Monchique, Cape St. Vincent in 2007, over 4 Months. Camped wild all the way. No problems with landowners or dogs. Windfall oranges on the verges for breakfast.
