Peak District winter bivy. On the wrong date! Weekend before

Post by ianfitz »

I know there’s a couple of other good folks who may well be keen for a Peak District edition. I’ve identified a nice sheltered spot that’s ideal for multiple occupancy. And has *looks around sneakily* a fire pit

There’s prior arrangements on the ‘proper weekend’ for many of the founder members of the trip so...

After much confusion generated inadvertently by me there will be a peak winter bivy on the Saturday 8th December

As always all are welcome, a steady social ride based around an early/mid afternoon start and pub for tea (possibly a cafe stop too!) then a bivy.

I’ve no fixed ideas about anything other than a proposed bivy site which is not so far from hope cross.

Edited to correct the dates. Quite a few times now

I’m pretty sure that the dates are now accurate in the OP...

Only took three attempts. Not bad :-bd

8th is the best for me as it’s my brother’s 40th on the 15th.

Sounds like the 8th is the day then.

Hang on...

Does that mean I’ve got to edit the date again

"Bivvy" is now written on the calendar at Landslide Towers. In ink.

Pending visit to consultant next week and him saying I can start riding outside, plus a few test rides to see how the thumb holds up. Then I am a very strong possibility. Fingers crossed. Ive only ridden on the turbo since August.

Given this is now only slightly over a week away, anyone fancy suggesting a meeting point/time?
Also, is anyone genuinely medically allergic to whisky or penny whistles?

That sounds suspiciously like actual planning is going on!

I wouldn’t like to claim it in such a definite way

A rough plan is to depart S7/11 area of Sheffield (dore and totley train station is close if coming by train) late morning - 11 ish. From the cafe in Eccleshall Woods - https://goo.gl/maps/2pbLXcv5YPG2

Arrive at the anglers cafe in bamford https://goo.gl/maps/qDqCcwPMrn22 for lunch at about 1:30 then have dinner in Edale at about 6:30. At either the Ramblers or the Nags https://goo.gl/maps/dyXPMxEtbsJ2. Bike parking is right outside the front doors of each and they are at opposite ends of ‘the village road’ about 1km apart. So even if we end up splitting the group it will be easy to spot which pub.

Bivy spot is in the woods a short decent from hope cross - SK 161878
