Are you now not the owner of a 'plus' bicycle? That makes anybody cool 'cos it's the law.

Does the Manx GP still coincide with the 2 day trial? It was over 40 years ago that I last went, we stayed in a hotel in Douglas with Mick Grant and Malcolm Rathmell who were both riding the trial. The GP was always just for amateurs but the racing was no less spectacular. My dad raced both the GP and TT in the late 50's.

Sort of. Both the GP and the Trial are part of the Manx festival of motorcycling that starts mid-Aug and culminates with the Senior at the GP.

The 2 day modern trial is the first weekend and the 2 day classic trial is the second weekend. The classic TT is over the first (bank holiday) weekend with racing on Saturday, Sunday and the Monday

Dave don’t worry I think that criteria rules most of us out. I’m still going, just realised that there will be two strokes :-bd bacon rolls and castrol R are the two greatest smells in the universe, throw in a bit of bike packing and perhaps a beer and it’s pretty close to heaven.

Bikepacking is NOT one of the greatest smells in the universe.

Sounds like a nice idea, and I could probably get the time off, but would have to be flying to Nice on 1st Sep for the TNR.

What's the latest thoughts Stu? My calendar is actually starting to get populated this time of year - whilst I've pencilled some "tenative" time on it round this trip, I reckon it's time to start making the dates/ferry crossing a bit more firm.

If anyone else still fancies this, I've just booked Chew, Mike and myself on the ferry.

03.00 from Liverpool on Fri 24th, returning at 16.30 on Sat Sep 1st - 'twas £59 each return

Obviously, happy to meet up with anyone who can't escape for the week but fancies a couple of days.

This year races are on Sat, Mon, Wed and Fri.

If it was like last time it was more of a bimble/explore so there will be no fast riding going on.

Only Manx phones work on the island, so we’ll just have to go old school and arrange to meet somewhere in advance :-bd

FYI
I've never had that problem over there on Vodaphone on my old works phones or recently on EE.
Not EE is free from the island if it's in your plan https://ee.co.uk/help/add-ons-benefits- ... sle-of-man

Just found on iplayer a series called Bikes! Its from BBC Ireland

They're showing two Irish road races (cooks town 100 and another one) and this weekend, they have highlights of the North West 200
