Peak based winter bivy - on the proper weekend ;-)

Post by ianfitz »

I'd like to join the yorkshire bivy but childrens birthdays that weekend make it unlikely, so...

At the risk of causing more factions within the northern contingent I will be heading out on the proper winter-bivy weekend for an afternoons ride, some food and beer, a bivy and a ride back via bacon the next morning.

I know that Mark and Graham were interested but all are welcome. It will be a social pace ride based around not getting to the pub too early.

Will start from one of the Hope Valley train stations in the early afternoon.

Sadly I can not make this. I'm out with our MR team collecting pennies that day.

What would make it fat bike unfriendly? I thought fat bikes were the ultimate, go anywhere, do anything bicycle of choice?

Is the route skinny bike friendly?
I'm a potential yes. Just need to check how much insulation I can wear/pack/carry.

I refer you to my answer above

I’ve ridden most of the peak trails on a cx bike over the years. All are doable, some are more fun with bigger tyres.

It’s ained at being a socially paced ride so waiting at the top/bottom of descents is no issue

I'm a bit miffed - I'm not going to be able to make it. I now need to be in Edinburgh on the Friday night (work party), and can't see how I can get back down to the Hope valley fast enough.

So far I know mark and I are keen to get out on Saturday. A social outing, all welcome.

I have a lunch thing but can be in the hope valley by 4 latest. A bit of riding then in the anglers at bamford for 7 ish.

After that ride a few steady miles to a bivy spot in the derewent valley.

Breakfast somewhere in the morning on the way home.
