My Deschutes-alike arrived from Aliexpress and I did a quick test pitch in the garden last night. Seems very good for the price and quality of materials and workmanship seems fine.

It was a bit fiddly to pitch nicely first time but I think it'll be simple enough from now on. You can pitch inner and outer together in one operation, or you can pitch either independently.

It's a good size for me at 5ft 9 and would be OK for anyone up to about 6ft-ish, I reckon. The inner looks like it ought to be fairly midge-proof, but we'll see.

Weights are as follows: inner 382g, fly 415g, total inc pegs 930g.

I used a BB 110mm pole tilted at a slight angle with a cork on the end, which was fine but ideal pole length is probably a few cm shorter. I'll try to remember to post pics when I have wifi.

Much oddness ... the pole I made previously for one of these was 125.5cm. A 110cm pole was way too short and produced a kind of curved door panel and set the whole thing very low to the ground. I wonder whether there's more than one model, although they look the same?

Final instalment of bamboo tops from Sportpursuit, with pretty patterns on for a change instead of plain black. Also, another book (you know, those old-fashioned things made out of flattened tree that you can read in the bath). Been having vague thoughts recently (no not those thoughts) about a sequence of themed bivis along the lines of getting off at very remote and/or little used railway stations and wandering about a bit on the bike for a couple of days to see what happens.I tried one last year - Roman Bridge (sorry Pont Rufenig, sorry sorry Pont Rufeinig cos the station is incorrectly spelled), and that led to some quite interesting happenings (Guard: "what are you doing here? I can't remember the last time anyone got on here, the driver nearly didn't stop for you"). Other natural candidates are Sugar Loaf, and my favourite Tonfanau. Anyroadup, obviously someone's already done similar - the book is Dixe Wills' "Tiny Stations" where he either bails out in the middle of nowhere and mooches about a bit, or flags a train down at a (tiny) request stop. I guess the hardcore choice would be Shippea Hill near Cambridge, the least-used in the country and there's probably a reason for that. Then again, I could go and have a beer and a ride with Si down the road, there's always a silver lining .

Steve nails it. Great for coffee on the go without faff and handy for work too as no filter machine.

Wouldn't really want it everyday but great for times when you can't carry an espresso machine with you.

Mine were Lyon branded and were about £2.80 for 18 bags, so pretty good value for coffee
