Cumulus quilt baffle Q

Post by ddraver »

Hi guys

Long time no see, hope you're all well.

I've just noticed - slightly embarrassingly as it's 3 years old now - that there is no down in one of the baffles on my Quilt.

Could this be because I've washed it or is this something that came from the manufacturer? Every other baffle is fine apart from the one that runs... approximately...over me nipples! :???:

It's hard to take a picture of it but there are clearly no feathers in it

Thanks
David

Hmm baffling.
Have you checked the stitching to ensure the integrity of the baffle in question?
The down may have migrated.
Is it goose?

I saw a 'how it's made' type programme and they were making down quilts, the sort you normally have on your bed. All the baffles were stitched apart from a half inch at one side, they then inserted a small steel pipe up the inside through the openings and blew the down into the quilt through the pipe, withdrawing it as each baffle was filled. There could be similar holes between the baffles on yours? Does one of the baffles either side of the empty one seem fuller? It would be odd though for an entire baffles worth of down to sneak through the hole into an adjacent one.

Me be it wasn't filled when manufactured.

I suspect more likely that when you've washed it or during use an internal baffle (often made with much thinner material than the faces) has torn or come unstitched. Subsequently the down has all.pushed out into a neighbour. Flaw with this idea is why it's not moving freely between the two.

I think some places do bag and down garment repair. Could be a solution (or MYOG).

Where are you based?

I'm just throwing some Cumulus down away as I cut down a sleeping bag into a half bag and the bin bag I put it in is coughing out feathers every time I go near it.

Happy for you to have it if you can collect in the North West before bin day on Wednesday.

There should be enough for you to fill 2 tubes of your quilt I guess.

The bins don't go about 9.30 on Wednesday morning, so if you set out now you'll have plenty of time

I would go back to Cumulus and explain the problem. They do have a ten year warranty according to their website.

To avoid any besmirchment of the proud Cumulus name, I should say that the quilt is now back in the UK having been (I assume*) fully filled

(*I confess I'm not actually in the UK to check the work's been done)
