Completely forgot to say... Canyon (the company) Bikepacking

Post by Richard G »

So keep an eye out for anything coming out of Canyon in the next few months that might be bikepacking related.

Kieran and I on the TNR managed to ruin one of their shots by riding through it looking generally scruffy. Ironic too really because we were both actual bikepackers on Canyon bikes. :ugeek:

I then proceeded to mess up another one of their shots as I went back down the hill to help Scott and Phil with some of their gear... and then finally we all went back through where they were trying to film to get to the bivvy spot.

Sadly they didn't have any dangly enamel mugs... but one thing is certain, no four people that good looking and well dressed have ever gone bikepacking together. Don't usually have the landrover following us around for moving shots either.

Did you meet the Danish guys and gals on the TNR - they looked impeccable every day, whilst they rode twice as quick as me up everything, i looked like a sweaty bag of spanners by half through first day?!

Far better looking / better presented than that motley lot.

...and the PNS guys / gal were looking distinctly more ragged after a few days.

Edit - WTF!

Alas, I believe we scared them off before they had the chance to set fire to random things.

Serves as a airbag when you smack into something. I've yet to fully test mine in a real-world situation though I must admit

Er, I admit I've had a couple of beers but...aren't the bars/bag magically floating above some form of aero integrated stem?

Now I consider myself new to the current plethora of different bike standards and values, so forgive me but are Canyon not just doing what Hetchins did with their curly frames, and what GT did with their funny triangles and designing shapes just for the sake of instant recognition and to engage fan-boys?

To me, Canyon look butt ugly from start to finish, it looks like emperors new clothes for the sake of selling something - anything, but maybe they ride really well.
Makes me wonder who's money is behind them?

haha - no tin foil hat here, but cynical? Oh yeah.

So I did a small amount of reading wikipedia tells me they're a German firm which sprang out of RadSport who used a designer from Votec (bugly as ever), and it seems they do ride nicely.
My opinion as to how ugly they are is the same as it was mind. Each to their own.

I love my canyon hardtail. I think it looks amazing. :)

But that gravel bike is disgusting.
