TCW water stops - remind me?

Post by slarge »

Hey all, going to ride the TCW soon, and I can't remember the water supply side of things.

I know there is water at Rhayader, Claerwen toilets, and Cwmystwyth campsite. With the current dry spell I want to use taps instead of rivers. What other taps have I missed? Some of the ride will be after dark, so I need easy to find, on route, but am ok with nipping up driveways to use taps on houses.

Please help!

Slight detour, but there are taps in Claerddu bothy IIRC. After the bothy, where you turn right to climb up into the forest, there's a house on the corner where you turn. Could probably get water there if you ask nicely. You could nip off Glyndyrs Way to the Star as well for a refreshing pint.

After Cwmystwyth campsite, it’s mostly streams from what I can recall.

Thinking hard about it Ian. The ground is dry for a good run, the biggest challenge in this weather is water, but I am thinking a 2 litre camelbak with a spare 500mL bottle for the night section.

There's been a lack of ITTs this year - not many are going for them (or maybe they are, but just not publicising it), so I am also thinking that it might kick off a few other attempts on other ITTs.

And I need to test some new shorts......

Good luck Steve!

Thinking of doing an ITT of a route up here end of this month. Watch this space.

Just received confirmation of another TCW ITT - Duncan Porter, moving W to E in a time of 11h 24m.
May the bridges you burn light your way
