Carbon forks problem

I’ve a set of carbon forks on my hardtail and I noticed a play in the front wheel. On inspection the through axle metal sleeve/collar on the right leg is loose. It moves around by about 1mm, maybe 2.

Are the forks toast or can they be repaired?

Probably repairable Bob. Hard to say how much work would be required - may need an oversize sleeve or just re-bonding of what's there.

Ideally, also need to discover why the present sleeve has come loose or you could simply walk straight back into the same problem again.

Update.

Contacted the retailer who recommended epoxy adhesive so ordered some of that.

Removed wheel and while cleaning the collar, the collar fell out. There didn't seem to be any damage to the carbon, certainly no cracks. Cleaned everything up and applied epoxy then left for an hour. Refitted wheel and all seems good Will see how it copes with some riding at the weekend.

Bob, epoxy doesn't fully cure for 24 hours.

I've not ridden it yet, even round the yard, as there's more work to be done to the bike as a whole. By "looks OK" I meant there was no side to side wobble in the wheel when I tried to move it which was how I noticed in the first place. Might be 48hrs from application to riding.

Just checking Bob. Sometimes the manufacturers make all types of claims about 'fast setting', 'quick drying', 'mended in 5 minutes' etc

I think it was a couple of hours before I put the wheel back in. I wasn't in a rush
