Jones complete bike
Notice on a thread on STW. Jones are now doing complete "standard" bikes. No indication of whether they will be available in the UK or indeed anywhere outside the USA.

Re: Jones complete bike
Pretty crappy spec there tho to be honest..
Re: Jones complete bike
I'm guessing it'll be about £1800ish Which is a shame because a ridged surly is a lot cheaper and not that much differentTeetosugars wrote:Pretty crappy spec there tho to be honest..

You seen the price of Surly lately? I think the Krampus is about £1800

I wonder if he'll do a complete bike with a truss fork

Re: Jones complete bike
I'd say the spec's about right for where it's pitched - it's also pretty much the same as you'd get on (for instance) a Surly Ogre, which is, wait for it... £1800
Must admit, I do like the videos Jeff Jones makes of Jeff Jones riding a Jeff Jones bike.

Stateside is near as dammit the same MSRP as an ECR (closest equivalent?) and a fraction more than an Ogre. £1800 would almost be a coup when a Plus Frameset is £1600?

Re: Jones complete bike
It’s not a bling spec but I bet Mr J has made sure it’s properly functional.
Thing is, I have bits to tart it up if need be. If the frame and wheels are good enough to keep then it’s a little bit tempting (should it come to the UK). Always wanted a Jones

As already stated, it’ll be about the same in £ as it is $ I guess?jay91 wrote:Wonder if kp know any info on uk Pricing
Re: Jones complete bike
The Pugsley 2.0 is $1850 complete build. But in the UK is £2200.
I'm guessing the Jones complete, if it ventures this side of the pond, will be the sunny side of £2k easily.

Re: Jones complete bike
This is a cheaper version of that frame, so heavier and probably simpler in design and possibly tubing.johnnystorm wrote:Stateside is near as dammit the same MSRP as an ECR (closest equivalent?) and a fraction more than an Ogre. £1800 would almost be a coup when a Plus Frameset is £1600?
I’m all for it though if it pitches them as competitors for Surly and others, and opens up Jones to a wider market.
A thought though - will it deflate secondhand values of the Plus if complete bikes can be had for not much more?
Re: Jones complete bike
I expect it's simply non heat treated tubes to save $$ on the frame - that can mean maybe +8oz additional over a heat treated frameset, just a guess though. Not much anyway, especially on a bike that seems to work so well despite being a bit heavier than average. The details will probably be the same as it's cheaper to use more of the existing fittings than make another set for a low volume frame.AlasdairMc wrote:This is a cheaper version of that frame, so heavier and probably simpler in design and possibly tubing.johnnystorm wrote:Stateside is near as dammit the same MSRP as an ECR (closest equivalent?) and a fraction more than an Ogre. £1800 would almost be a coup when a Plus Frameset is £1600?

I think he's done a smart thing here - complete bikes that ride in the way all his bikes do, made in a way that leaves the seperate frames as the 'premium' lines. They might even offer the best ride : £ ratio of all his bikes. My steel Jones is just as much fun as my Ti SF. They're certainly different but not in a way where I think one is 'better'.
If I was looking for a base to build a world tour bike right now this would be it. No 2nd thoughts. The tubing will probably be a bit more ding-resistant and I'd be less precious about it, while it'd handle loaded all-terrain riding as well as if not better than anything else, just what a good travel bike should be. I've wondered about getting couplings fitted to my steel Jones and having a unicrown fork for fitting guards and bags. Would be more likely to do it to one of these now.

Re: Jones complete bike
I think its an American thing - Americans can't deal with building up their own bikes, they have to get someone to do it for them. Stateside it probably works out cheaper than doing it yourself as well. Whereas over here if you are the kind of person who wants a specialist frameset, your more likely going to want to spec (and build) it yourself. It will also likely work out cheaper, especially given the trump tax. This works for Surlys as well. It cost me £2k to throw the ICt together with hope and XT stuff. The complete bike was £2250 with some pretty cheapo stuff on it.

Does the trump tax just concern raw materials? A frame is no different to a bike in that respect.
It'll be cheaper as he's ordered 10,000 of everything and it's made on a production line in one colour.
Re: Jones complete bike
10,000? Hope so, go Jeff! I'd be suprised if it was more than a few hundred per order / batch, ~300 in a container. Nowhere near enough to be getting good rates from assembly factories but more cost effective than single builds.

Certainly better for him to be in front of a drawing board or videocamera than just twiddling spanners.

Holy broadbrush- anecdotal -stereotyping Batman!
Well most Americans then seriously based on web forum excursions this does seem to be my observation.....
Anyway, I watched the vid and hadn't appreciated its a slightly cheaper frame - wonder if this will be available separately?? And will he import direct to UK from China to avoid being Trumped?
Given what £1800 gets you these days (not a lot) its not bad value really....
