Ooohhh nice weather coming....

Post by JohnClimber »

By Wednesday it's going to be sub tropical (well compared the this never ending winter it will feel balmy)

What are the odds on this weather window closing the day before The WRT?

Place you bets.

I hate winter, I hibernate. This year has been the worst ever, I've not been working and have gone days without leaving the house. I won't even go as far as the garage because it's cold. The WRT should be funny, normally by this time of year I've got a good few miles in, so far I've done barely enough to keep myself alive. I'm the fattest I've been for years and the least fit. Training started today.

At present I think the odds are fairly good if the long-range forecast is to be believed - high pressure dropping away towards the end of the month ... I'm hoping they're wrong

Tom and I got sunburn on Saturday on our run over Kinder.

That's an observation, not a complaint.

I see the Dyfi Enduro has been cancelled on the same weekend

Strange goings on in Machynlleth, the Enduro is cancelled partly citing access to the parking being waterlogged but the comedy festival on the same weekend which presumably uses the same facilities is unaffected? Can't see the course being an issue, the Dyfi forest is always wet and drains well.

That's a shame, although I've always thought it odd that the town's two largest 'attractions' are held over the same weekend. When you factor the increasing number of riders and popularity of the comedy festival, it's little surprise that something had to give.

Sorry, I chose this morning to make the yearly transition from trousers to shorts.

Heatwave resolutely refusing to begin in the Costa del Dorset; 10 degs and a cold stiff southerly this morning prompting me off the road and into the woods on the commute for some respite. Knee warmers firmly still in place.

Hoping for some sun tomorrow as our lunch rides to the beach for ice cream are starting...better bring the down jacket just in case.

I was in shorts for the first time yesterday.
Its dull spitting with rain and blowing a hooley today here in 'sunny Devon'.

Last couple of weeks have seen big improvements in the weather over here, been settled at 20+ C this last week. Managed a couple of good rides this week and my good lady was rather amused to see the return of the cyclists tan

Irony alert.

Lunch break social ride to the beach on Wednesday felt like summer. :-bd

Commute on Thursday felt like summer. :-bd

Melting on a rammed train at Bristol yesterday afternoon, stationary for 30 minutes because of signalling problems, also felt like summer albeit the not so good part. :|

Creating terraces putting 4" by 6 foot posts into clay with at least 50% limestone/flint. Dig 2 foot sledge 1foot. Will add concrete to the 2 foot of hole next week. Managing 1-2 posts a day partly because of heat but mainly due to bone idleness. Dog happy to lay there watching me!

Warm weather built up into some dramatic lightning storms last night. I was riding the return leg of a big day out-back (taking advantage of the nice weather of course) with it all kicking off behind me  A welcome tailwind blew up, then I realised what was causing it, time to pedal!! Got soaked twice, took shelter for half an hour under a garage forecourt at 1am. Strangely warm night though, short sleeve top and no gloves when it wasn't raining. 2.30am within 5 miles of home, I stopped for 15 mins on top of a high open area watching lightning flashes every 5 sec or so among pillars of cloud, all orange and grey. One of those Bladerunner moments when you feel like you might be the only one witnessing that particular scene ... 'I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...'.

Two contrasting nights bivvying at Kielder. Friday night was classic early spring clear skies leading to a cool night - 1.5C apparently. Last night saw the heatwave disappear in some spectacular lightning storms and it was positively roasting overnight, the car thermometer showed 14C! The storms were very isolated - you could still see quite a few stars.
