Brake adaptor

Post by rufus748 »

Recently bought a set of second hand road hydro shifters with flat mount calipers.
My frame isn't a flat mount nor is the fork
I'm struggling to find an adaptor, is there such a thing or do I need to replace the calipers?

Hmmm, I don't think you can go flat mount to IS or Post mount.

I've got flat mount road calipers on my road bike, and my kinesis cross bike has flat mount on the rear with flat to post adaptor.

Looking at these, I'd get a new caliper tbh, as I can't really see how you'd do it the other way round easily, and no-one seems to sell them (at a quick search).

I’ve done the same thing - pair of SRAM force hydros of the classifieds.

My googling led me to this:

I've got one of those on one of the calipers and the distance between the outside holes is too short for the frame/fork mounts.

New calipers required.

Potentially (another) stupid question but I assume any make caliper is compatible with Sram levers?

Nay, the rate at which the master drives fluid is different SRAM to Shimano - think cable pull rates.

I'd be very surprised if you could mix say Shimano and SRAM, the barb and olives are different for a start, given the petite size of SRAM road calipers, you may also struggle with swapping to mountain ones as the bigger pistons may need more fluid to push them causing the levers to have too much travel. Sorry to be negative but a) it's brakes and b) cycle components tend to be non interchangable these days.

I was looking at the shimano road calipers BRR785MPRF to work with Sram rival 1 road shifters.
No?

SRAM use DOT 5.1 in their brakes, Shimano use mineral oil. You can't mix without destroying seals.

Bugger.
Is it possible to buy a post mount SRAM calliper without a brake/shifter attached to it?

Wow, not cheap. Makes a bit of a joke of my ‘bargain’ purchase getting the levers!

Only another tenner for the hope ones.

We need like a a sram Caliper dating site where we can swap with someone who has just bought a new flat mount frame...,

Too busy riding bikes m8

tbf I've done the same thing when buying second hand stuff. Bought some forks that had a 1 1/4" steerer tube (Giant Overdrive) without realising. Turned out that NO bearing manufacturers made headset bearings in that size to fit my frame.
