Entries open on the... some time in November.

Post by Richard G »

So I excitedly checked the winter event page only to find that the entry date has been put back a few days.

Also, I assume it's not actually going to be on the 14th / 15th of January. Still, looking forward to it... always makes for one of my few chilled (?!?) rides of the year.

Still sez 14/15th... maybe "Doors Open on 6th Nov" is awaiting confirmation that the "cafe" still exists after 5th November conflagrations....

What a bunch of big kids we are, it's worse than the run-up to Christmas :-bd. ("What have you asked Father Bikepacker for then, little boy/girl?")

Noticed last night it had changed. Have been counting down the days. Thought that my second ever bikepacking event should be the polar opposite of my first in June. From bright sunshine to.... well... who knows what? Nevermind... everyone loves being cold and wet right?

Because I'm going a lot slower I tend to wear so much clothing that I don't tend to mind even full on storms. I guess it's a state of mind when I'm in no rush to get anywhere.

Yes, the eagle-eyed will have noticed that 'entries open on the 1st' is now 'entries open on the 6th'. The reason for such? ... because we're currently hiding away in a cottage somewhere south of Swindon.

All other details / dates remain exactly as they were.

I'm going to miss the Winter Event this year unfortunately, just booked a month off work to cycle down Patagonia over Christmas. Shame as I really want to do a snowy bikepacking event, lets hope it stays cold in February.

Is it a numbers limited, better sign up at midnight or you miss your spot type of event or is it more relaxed than that?

A much more relaxed affair than the rush that is the BB200.

Option 1 day out: eat a relaxed breakfast, go for a bit of a ride with some mates, sample some cake and tea, maybe have a beer and talk rubbish, drift off to sleep in a comfy feather bed at home.

Option 2 day out: eat a relaxed breakfast, go for a bit of a ride with some mates, sample some cake and tea, maybe have a beer and talk rubbish, try to extract tarp in pouring rain, drop sleeping bag in the snow, eat nasty dried meal, get in s'bag, get out again to take bike shorts off, squash only pair of glasses, have sleepless night in dripping Welsh forest.

PS Stu, I'm wondering if panda will be allowed out for the occasion? I know she's doing fine there and in good hands, but it can't be healthy cooped up in the workshop all winter despite her excellent lemon-drizzle diet. She needs her vitamin D. I worry about her constantly. I'll need a decent navigator too and she saved me from a few wrong turns on WRT.
