I use Shimano so it would be either SLX (M7000) or XT (M8000) for mech and derailleur. Chainwise I tend to go with KMC.

Depends on your rear hub to a degree - Shimano or SRAM free hub?

If it's currently 9 or 10 speed then it's "Shimano" anyway.

I'd run the current xt shifter, but go with which ever 11spd derailleur your budget will allow. You'll never notice the difference in performance with the different mechs.

I'd just stick with whatever you already have.
Off road it only really matters what the biggest and smallest ratios are.

Personally unless you told me, I couldn't tell if a bike was 9/10/11 speed while riding it.

This,

I'm running 1x9 at the minute more out of necessity rather than choice but it's served me well. 32x36 gets me up most hills, if I need a 46 tooth I'd be as quick jumping off and walking!

If you are already on 10 speed and want to ditch your front mech but retain a large range then the new Deore cassette might be enough for you. It goes up to 46T

Sunrace do an 11-40 9 speed cassette now

I actually made up an 11-42 for my cx using an expander cog but when it wears out i'll probably just get the sunrace

Reluctant to leave the magical world of interchangabilty 9 speed gave behind

Oops. My apologies. 11-42 is, indeed, the largest.

Good to know, will look at the sunrace next time I need to change cassette, would allow me to use a 34 or 36 on the front around my local area and Chuck a 32 on for hilly bikepacking
