Avenue Verte anyone ?

Post by Sarah »

Looking to ride to Paris this August, anyone got any tips, side trips or advice ?

It will be super laid back, gentle and easy riding, 3-4 days and a couple hanging out in Paris.

Cheers

No but we bought the guide book which is pretty good.

I’d be interested to hear how it goes though as we’ve considered a family trip from the ferry to Paris.

This also looks interesting for a trip across the water-

Somebody posted up about it last year (maybe Hux?).
The uk section might be a bit lumpy, but the French side looks good..

Yup, twas Hux.
A mates done the uk side now in bits with the intention of going over and finishing off the French side in the summer.
He'd agree parts of the uk side is 'lumpy'.

Twas me. Didn't go anywhere near the avenue verte I'm afraid. Started in Caen, had a mooch around the Normandy beaches, down to Bayeux, took in a few military cemeteries. Lots of wreaths etc still about following the D-Day anniversary.
Picked up the Tour de Manche just above Vire and followed it to Lannion with some detours around the coastline then a loop south and back to St Malo.
Was a great trip, signs for cycle routes everywhere, no shortage of food stops and cheap campsites. Think I wild camped 4 nights without any problems.
I would recommend it to anyone, lots of traffic free routes and stunning scenery. Cheap too, £20 to park in Portsmouth and the ferries were £90 I think. Lots of info and gpxs here
