Snowdonia area routes

Post by Jon999 »

Hi

Newbie here. I am hoping to have a weekend in the Snowdonia area in August and would like to hear suggestions for beginner to intermediate difficulty routes for day rides. We are hoping to ride up Snowdon on one of the days if we can make it during the allowable hours.I will be doing this with a mate on hardtails and only carrying a day pack as we intend to have a base camp or hostel it. We are both the wrong side of forty but reasonably fit. Hoping to do the full bikepacking adventure later on as I get more kit and have a practice overnighter or two locally under my belt before going off into the mountains!

Any suggestions or directions to a good source of routes for the area much appreciated.

Not 100% sure but if we go by train probably near Bangor. Possible we could drive in which case we can drive to start points and loop back to the car.

If you're that far north, I'd suggest sending SummitToppler a message - Jeff's got that area near the coast well covered.

From Bangor, perhaps head south towards
-Glasinfryn
-Tregarth
-Bethesda
-Keep on the south side of the A5 and follow this stunning valley all the way to Capel Curig (theres a side road and then once past Ogwen, there is an old Roman Road)

-Refuel at the excellent Siabed cafe

-Follow the road down to Betws-y-Coed and before the village, turn south and head over Sarn Helen
-Loop into Dolwyddelan
-Head north into the forest keeping east of Siabod and head towards Port Cyfyng
-Retrace your steps from Capel Curig

I'll try do to do a map thingy for you...

Edit - PM sent for email address as can't attach. Route is 45 miles but non-technical except for 200-300m or so

Indeed, if it's legal and you can stick the route on GPSies or some other 'open' track repository, that would be most excellent.

Dr Rad, sent over

Steve, if you PM me, I'll send the file over :-bd

I think theres about 200 metres of legal 'pushing your bike' on the route, so wont publish it directly. Doesn't cause any (or worthy) erosion though as it's on a dual track
