the xtracycle was a used item off STW .

The price of a new one made me baulk.

By the time you add bags , top deck wide loaders and a long loader....your north of 1000 quid :O

i paid no where near that ! - not even close - n0t even close to half...
Yeah I looked up their website and thought they were a bit spendy. Seen a couple of complete bikes on ebay but they're a bit over priced as well I think as I'd just strip it and use my own frame. Looks like a great way to do the weekly shop!

Use your hands or lose your hands is my motto.

I'd never welded before I bought a 1980s land rover 90

The following week I bought a welder and sorted the hole in the floor. - a couple years later I did a full rebuild involving welding on a quarter chassis , 2 outriggers and a bunch of custom made panels on the press brake to repair the bulkhead.

I drive a desk at work.

Everyone can do it they just have to want to and start small.

That's my attitude as well, I'm also office based. I will buy the tools to do a job rather than pay someone to do it if I can. Most of the time this is cheaper the first time they are used and then it's free from then on. Nothing like owning a Land Rover to build up a good skill set  When the clutch started slipping on my 90 I bought a new clutch and an engine crane for 1/3 of the cost I was quoted by the main dealer to do the job! Trail-rat's cargo bike is really impressive, I like that a lot
