A windshield question for you.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I'm playing about with something at the moment and the solution isn't yet forthcoming. It might be that I'm trying to do something that is actually not very important ... or maybe it is.

My question is - how important is it that your windshield is small enough that it can be stored inside your pot?

Mine fits which means it doesn't get damaged.
Fairly high on my list.

Given recent history I'll skip this one before I cause any more trouble .

PS. Am enjoying my new cup thank you cos it slips nicely onto the bottom of the AK400.

PPS. Question in response if I may please: if not in t'pot where do people stash theirs? Particularly conical ones?

Depends on what type it is.
The wrap a round type 'made by a bloke in a barn in Wales' very conveniently fits in a pot but cant imagine how you would pack it if it didn't.
The fold up segment type end up being sort of ok as long as you can fine a flat surface to pack them on.

If its a height problem with a conic one have you thought of a two tier system with both fitting inside the pot?
Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

Fairly important. If not in the pot then it should be able to be wrapped around it.

Yep, must fit in the pot. With the stove. And the fuel. And the sporky thing. And a little cloth to clean stuff.
I'm just going outside ...

Mine goes int the pot, but it isn't conical (some may consider it comical, though)

I'd say that it's fairly important, as it makes for a single bundle of all things you need for cooking.

Mine also goes in the pot (mug) and I can't think where I would carry it that didn't result in it getting squashed/damaged if it didn't.

Well, I think that's answered my question and it's good to know everyone's of a similar mind to myself - back to the workshop in the morning to find the answer then :geek:

That last phrase, Stuart, sounds like you'll carefully lift the latch, peek round the edge of the door to see the last of a group of tiny figures scurrying into a mousehole, and be presented with The Perfect Windshield perched right in the middle of your workbench .

My mug came with a little net bag - and the rectangular windshield that came with my 22g stove fits neatly inside the net bag, on the outside of the mug, but very snug. I think that's ok.

We all seem to be in agreement that it has to fit inside or snugly around the pot (as indeed mine does) but...
there seems to be no mention of the size of the pot?
(The only one mentioned thus far is a particular mighty unit that Reg has been brow-beaten into acquiring and making his early morning victuals fit inside of)

In this case Peter, 400 / 450ml. Making a windshield that fits inside is easy enough, even a tapered as proved by the 8g windshield but for this one I need a bit more coverage / support.

Yes Peter, it was a 400 that I stupidly self-set as my challenge the other day. Managed it eventually but could only cram in the rectangular Ti tissue-paper shield and only one breakfast. Next time I return to the 750ml I'll probably be stunned by the commodiousness therein. Then again, gulp, there's no going back..... So, v intrigued by the Guv'nor's latest project....
